(Tracklisting and credits via Tiktok video captures).
Note: Melanie track and Matt Walker.
Wasn't aware Charlie Browne had passed (Sebastien Pesel-Browne's father / lots of Morrissey tour involvement).

In truth most people apart from the cultist types, prefer the pre 2000 . Apart from one or two songs , it’s been pretty thin gruel . Not being bitchy , just saying lots of treading water , post 2000.
Sad to hear about Charlie
Make that 2009 and I think you’re right.

"Kit" must have been really important for Boz. Sad fact: Morrissey is light years away from releasing a remixed and expanded edition of Maladjusted like The Police with Synchronicity in July. Demos, finished masters and work-in-progres material that show how things worked back then in 97. Quite popular@ the moment and a save cash-in for companies. I don't need a new Kit version with another singer when the original master take only floats in embryonic form and I don't need a Beethoven reissue with a new cover from 2006 either. Next!

An odd turn of events. Haven't properly digested but sounds like a covers album of Boz's favourite Morrissey-sung songs with about a third written by Boz - Boz plays most of the music but a different guest singer on each? Not a bad thing per se and good that he and Morrissey on decent terms.
It would have made more sense to me, though, if they'd all been Morrissey/Boorer songs.

I don't understand why people seem to think Boz releasing this means he is on good terms with Morrissey. I'd say exactly the opposite... seems to me releasing this shows that there is no belief Boz will ever play live with Morrissey again.

It seems unlikely Boz would release a Moz cover album with Melanie and Matt Walker without Mozzers approval.

Have you seen what Moz writes his track titles as on his setlists?

Maybe try listening to music before judging it.

6/14 are Boz tracks = 8 headaches probably reliant on some form of positive relationship to get permission to use (playing Smiths / Morrissey songs live doesn't fix the legalities of using them on a covers album being sold). Pregnant.. is an obvious choice as he's referenced that on several occasions as not only the first track he worked on for Morrissey, but one of his favourites. It is odd there's no Quarry or dunken Italian adventure tracks though.
The Boorers have posted about and reminisced about Morrissey and band members without any malice. The 'tough decisions' mentioned probably reflect their post-2020 experience through covid, losing 2 parents, having a third currently in a nursing home and gaining a granddaughter - all of which have kept them occupied in between projects of one kind or another. They have used the word 'retired' themselves on occasion and it is quite feasible that a reduction in tours and only doing select things reflects that slower pace?

The thanks to Morrissey at the bottom of the credits seem very genial and heartfelt to me.

Yeah, he seems to be all over that track over the years. A shame it’s still never officially been put on anything.

I wonder what the significance of it is to him exactly? Other than writing the music of course.

If the Boorer's can't be arsed to get the titles correct on what they are touting as "promo cd's", then what even is this? Let's not pretend short hand song titles for setlist are the same thing as a physical release.

And I'm not judging the music yet, trust me, we will get there!.

I feel I need to correct you on this. There are no legalities if you want to release a cover album as long as a) you indicate the original authors b) you don't make structural changes to the songs, i.e. you don't change the lyrics, or add any significant musical part to the original composition. Though not a whole album, I recorded covers and they are legally available on all streaming platforms and physical records.

"Is It Really So Strange?" has a question mark, and "Everyday" is like Sunday, not "Every Day". And calling songs simply "Jack", "Satan" and "You're Gonna Need" in the liner notes? Show the writer, Morrissey, a bit of respect and get the names right at least. Did Lynne Borrer proofread the 'Live at Earls Court' LP?

This release is just rank.

Love Boz, but was the world waiting for his take on Smiths tunes and Morrissey songs he wrote 0% of?

Oof.
Is it "Mochique Mountains" or "Monchique Mountains"? Monchique I think. Detail. Detail.

I appreciate your experience with regards to covers, but respectfully: compulsory licences / mechanical licences (via eg: Songfile/HFA, PRS et al) wouldn't exist if people could simply churn out cover version physical albums or downloads with complete impunity/copyright concerns. Nor would the hundreds of websites dedicated to releasing covers legally all say the same thing (almost all mentioning "notifying" the copyright holder and said licences prior to releasing anything - streaming being the only exception).

However, it is the way I just wrote. Anyone can cover their favourite David Bowie songs, should they indicate Bowie/Eno/Alomar or whoever was the writer of the songs. Unlike Morrissey, I manage my bands' digital distribution. If an album contains a cover version, I only have to tick a box on the (completely legal) online distributor's page. All royalties go from streaming to the original composers. It's as simple as this - just like I wrote, in case you don't change lyrics, or remove/add from/to the original composition, even if you have a different arrangement.

I denoted streaming is different (as it has in-built mechanisms). Making money from physical products and downloads does carry other considerations.
