I know folks are hesitant to believe @Odbmke's insider-knowledge post, but I for one can 100% see Morrissey f***ing up his own good fortune in this way.

Sure. But who cares if it’s true. I highly doubt it would be the first time Morrissey’s walked away from ‘good fortune’, being through as many managers with ‘good intentions’ as he has.

Maybe it was re-recorded?
Carmen said she recently was in the Studio with Moz.
Who knows, all speculation of course.

But new hope!

Nah, Mozi probably had her re-record over some of Alain’s playing on ‘Without Music..’

just speculation of course.

:p

I mean to answer your question, I care. If true, it sounded like a pretty good plan. And I'd have certainly liked to see something it come to fruition. And I'm sure if it had, you'd have praised Morrissey for being so true-to-his-Art and vision, too.

yes and no. Walking away from any ‘pretty good plan’ is also him ‘being so true-to-his-Art and vision’. He must have his reasons, he must of felt there is more benefit to walking away. We don’t see it, probably will never see or know his reasons for his actions. As I said, if the ‘insider’ information is true, it’s most likely not the first time that he’s walked away from a manager’s ‘good’ advice or plans.

It's not dissimilar to 2010 to 2013 and how many deals were offered but not deemed big enough. The major label obsession is still baffling and hard to believe he cannot see he might do better on a smaller label that's dedicated to him rather than a huge label where his release is just another product.

It's been over a year since Morrissey bought BOT back. At the end of last year, he said at a concert that he would be prevented from releasing the album.

In 2025, there was only news of concerts in the US and Europe. What do you think? Is a record deal still being sought behind the scenes? Does he have a new management?

Or has he accepted that he is now just an artist who restricts himself to concerts?

Odmke said that he did have a decent deal but I get what you are saying and after what he said about the Capitol Records Exec, I wouldn't be surprised.

If I was a Record Exec I wouldn’t sign him. The quality of his music is at an all time low, his sales figures are at an all time low and he destroys every working relationship within 6 months.

He is just bad for business.

The lack of progress is suspicious. I'm guessing he still wants a deal - apparently, he just can't get one to his liking. Then the unwillingness to self-release keeps us in this stalemate. I think it's great that he's continuing to play live. I hope he varies up the setlists this time and doesn't treat the shows as a BOT promo tour when it isn't (unless it is).

It’s gonna be the same stale setlist as always. Because there’s only one thing he despises more than Record Company Execs and that’s his fans.
