'BONFIRE OF TEENAGERS’ IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS'

Artist-friendly Capitol Records (Los Angeles) have no plans to release ‘Bonfire of Teenagers’ two and a half years after the album was recorded.

Morrissey’s new comment on the situation:

“It’s a clear display of how censorian the music industry has become. It is a new part of the music industry that does not work and that nobody likes. Music should be the primary democracy, as all art should be, and any effort to keep people away from it simply invites deeper discussion. There is no point banning ‘Bonfire of Teenagers’ because somebody somewhere might be offended if they heard it. Why waste time on other people’s mental incapacities? And where is Capitol’s support for the kids who were murdered in that Manchester bonfire on 22 May 2017? Although Capitol claims to be a label of ‘diversity’ it is very difficult to see their humanity. If you are only prepared to release music that draws people’s minds away from thinking then you are unfit for any contact with creative people. Songs are literary compositions, and writing music should be an unrestricted open form. It seems to me that Capitol Records cannot observe the possibility that their artists or their potential customers have ever thought. But silencing certain artists achieves nothing, and simply makes the bonfire burn taller and louder. The moral perspective at Capitol Records who is sitting like a hen on an egg on ‘Bonfire of Teenagers’ is Michelle Jubelirer, who played no small part in removing ‘World Peace is None Of Your Business’ from the shelves in 2014 - determined that it could not sell or be heard. The same creeping culture of censorship at Capitol Records has taken place with ‘Bonfire Of Teenagers’, and the civic structure of Capitol now appears fascist. I still have hope in the music industry, but there are evidently several powerful faces within it that have no honest interest in music … and you follow them into the shadows at your peril.”

"And where is Capitol’s support for the kids who were murdered in that Manchester bonfire on 22 May 2017?"

Wow, what a terrible thing to say. It really is despicable of him to state that someone or anyone does not support the murdered children because he can't have his way. This is coming from someone who criticized how other people dealt with this tragedy and totally disrepected them, calling them morons, on this very album.
I can see his point if Capitol are indeed refusing to release the record due to the Bonfire song/lyrics/album title.

Whatever the reasons, its a massive shame this album doesn't look like it will see the light of day.
Hopefully one day it might but for now it looks like it will take on Princes 'Black Album' status and only be heard on dodgy bootlegs.
And im probably alone in thinking 'Rebels without applause' was a great taster, weird production aside.
Never mind.
Cant he just realise it independantly, on streaming platforms why does he need a record label, or can't he just switch to another music company /?

Not the most controversial thing hes been quoted on though

Let’s all be honest here. BOT will never be released unless it is self released.
We all know this won’t ever happen.

I’m just looking forward to Nottingham and Liverpool, hopefully we will hear WMTWD
Songs.
This said, the one song that really intrigues
Me from BOT was Diana Doors.

A marvellous actress
Who loved a good party
With more sex appeal than Frank and open,
And Maralyn Monroe put together….
And she looked even sexier in her latter years whilst in the Adam Ant video😛😛
Yes, with intriguing lyrics... la la la laaaa, la la la laaaa, oh Dianaaa, Doh, oh, oh, orssss...

Not the most controversial thing hes been quoted on though
Nope, it's not, he tried to use dead people in France too.

I can see his point if Capitol are indeed refusing to release the record due to the Bonfire song/lyrics/album title.
He could murder children in front of you and you would still 'see his point', you defend every horrendous thing he does and says.
He doesn't have a point except to throw another tantrum and now using dead kids to do it.

Re-record it with the full Chili Peppers line up. Let that shirtless dude with the long hair sing the lyrics and have Flea lay down some funky bass lines. Call it Bonfire of the Chili Peppers (featuring Morrissey on backing vocals) and have them play it live in their underwear. Problem solved.

Can someone explain what would the rational have been for Capitol in signing Morrissey only to never release this album ?
Honest question.
Theory we've talked about here and I think it's probably the closest to the truth

Miley had to appear uncredited for whatever reason, but he broke that agreement and her record company intervened and said the album had to be released without her on it and he would not agree

or

Miley had to be uncredited because of Morrissey's references to morons ect in BOT and she could not appear on an album where she and Arianna Grande were being called morons, and Miley likely did not know about this when she sang on Veronica

M, bruv..Please, stop.
What he says about the record industry is true. It has nish to do with why the record isn't coming out though. What the other person said above, is true. It was all M's (or Sams) fault, for acting all Charlie big balls. "Look I have a young person on the record who is popular" . If it wasn't for the showing off, it would have all be fine. What is sad is this narrative he is inventing, basically to hide the fact, the record company couldnt give a shit about him and that he doesn't have the power to throw his weight around like he did. I mean he blames this woman and says she was largely to blame for World Peace. Well, why would you work with her again? Then you have the fact Capital did hear the LP, before buying it and they didn't have an issue with the content.
M is trying to make out the song Bonfire Of Teenagers, is this dangerous edgy truthful song, the Matrix just can't handle, When its nothing of the sort, The sentiment is one lots of us stand behind. People who bomb kids should not be tolerated. The kind of sheeple who move past such tragedy with a hippy outlook was/are part of the problem. The trouble is that is only part of the song, the rest is this bitter little rant about fans and music acts who were trying to help during the bombing, unlike M, who was nowhere to be seen, I think its a shame the LP isn't coming out . What worries me, is that we will not see any more M music if he carries on with these posts, people will not want to work with him.
Feck me only 7oo fans signed that petition? It was probably more like 400 actual people, the rest were the same person with multiple accounts

It would be great to see him release it on his own label, imprint or whatever, but he must have his reasons for not doing it.
He would exist in his own little world,
which is what he does anyway really.

It is a minefield and you'r right MC has more public support and could throw punches at anyone and people would back her, shes got more weight for her opinions, the art industry inclusive is like this and if people decide to take one down and their repretation depending on their popularity they can take them down and suffocate them and their reputation and their art alongside. Moz should be able to write music about anything, if its done right then it can be done, its cancel culture its seriously cutting into the arts and creating a dumbing down washload and a load of insecurity for artists.

He doesn't say or do anything "horrendous"

LOL, your comments are just sad, he says plenty of things that are horrendous that get him into all kinds of trouble with the public and others, he's generally referred to as toxic or something of that nature. I was not going to go here, but I will, him selling 'death' so soon after Andy's passing is monstrous.

morrissey seems to churn out crummy songs with the same alacrity that light housework churns out crummy paintings. so, no loss, is what i say.

Honestly at this point, re-record it and package it with WMTWD as a double album release. f***, release it independently and put half the money (for BOT) towards a charity like families of the victims or something - but that's a long stretch.

As cynical as Morrissey can be, I have absolutely zero doubt that if he were to drop dead now or whenever, that Capitol would release BOT ASAP to capitalise on it. I don't see what they're doing as something about morals.

Sadly Dirk, i agree with everything you just said, i wish i didn’t tho, but he really is his own worst enemy.
Sometimes its funny, or mildly frustrating,
but its now actually stopping us, the fans, from listening to his new music, and thats very sad.

She is an attorney. Not an artist and certainly not an advocate for artists. It's clear she acquired Bonfire not for its 'art' but as a simple legal maneuver to block its release and thus any chance of bringing the Manchester Arena Bombings back into the cultural conversations (probably as a good will gesture for Ariana Grande, one of Universal Music's Group biggest cash cows).

The one smart thing M did if you recall is that he did not sign over UK rights to Bonfire to Capitol/UMG. I believe the agreement for them was for everywhere BUT the UK. So even if its still legally tied up at Capitol, there's a chance it could be released via a UK label, and available as an import or online only to folks outside of the UK.

I remain optimistic Bonfire will see the light of day sooner than later.
