The new Billboard 200 is up on their site and Morrissey is at 95. Two places below the new Stray Cats album.

OK so now we have some clarity on this!

Billboard 200 albums: number 95
Billboard album sales: number 7
Billboard vinyl albums: number 3
Billboard independent albums: number 4
Billboard tastemaker albums: number 3
Billboard digital albums: number 9
Billboard artist 100: number 58

Can anyone articulate why the Billboard 200 ranking is so much lower - is that just because nobody's really streaming it? Or does radio play factor in too?

a) streaming
b) albums that are not recent (Legend by Bob Marley etc) are eligible for the 200 but ineligible for the other charts

There may be other reasons, but those are two that I can think of.

How on earth does Moz qualify for the independent albums chart, given that he's on BMG?

So what is he comparing previous releases to as MC claims LIHS was number 10 yer Billboard says number 20?

Just when you thought Steve couldn't be even more of a total plonker...
He's gone and claimed a top 10 album for one that barely scraped the top 100!

Nope but it (some level of commercial success) does determine whether he will be able to put out new albums in the future. Presumably that does matter to you.
A semi failed covers album (if that is the case) will obviously not determine his future.

He’s already on the decline, can you not see that? Has been for a decade now. It’s sad, I’m a fan too. But be real with yourself. Sales are declining, rapidly, and his fan base is shrinking. But the saddest thing, is his decline in music, it’s no longer listenable or enjoyable.

It has confirmed that his UK fan-base has hemorrhaged (probably by over 50%) as first hinted at by the disastrous sales for the cancelled tour of summer 2018. So, I'm afraid it very much will at least influence (if not determine) his future.

Of course. Neither WPINOYB nor LIHS rank among my favorites. Yet live he’s remarkably good and is still a huge draw in many countries.
I wouldn’t worry too much about sales. His label and management have faith in him, his albums still chart and besides, sales isn’t what it once was.

I see the problems, of course. The situation is far from ideal. But at the same time it’s not the nightmare that some of his most ardent detractors wants us to believe. Nuance and balance seems to be hard to come by when discussing Moz.

Nonsense ^.

California Son, Morrissey's album of cover versions, is number 4 in the UK albums chart.
