Soft packs? As in.. cardboard? I never like getting a new CD and it comes in one of these. So flimsy. 🫤 Plus they don't look good on a display shelf from the side... Too thin. Whyyyy?!
Apparently the main reason these have taken over from the old hardcases is that - in bulk - the record companies can save a lot of money on postage. 5,000 digipaks weigh a lot less than 5,000 hardshells. It seems to be standard for a lot of artists now.

Anyone interested in these, should track down the Japanese mini LP cd’s instead. Properly cropped covers and the attention to detail is insane. Rank has the mini poster…

I believe they came out when I happened to be in Tokyo in 2009. I was able to buy them all at once (including the Jobriath titles) at a Tower. There went all my money

Yes, they look pretty good, I meant to get these when I was out there. Completely forgot
As for Jobriath, he was really a one-trick pony, its nice M tried to bring him to the attention of the world but really he is just one step up from Brett Fecking Smiley

I have one of these and I must say the quality is awfully bad. Perhaps I could have had gotten the rotten one from that batch but none the less, not worth the money. The covers for "Hateful of Hollow" and "The World Won't Listen" are badly cropped, they could've fit the whole cover in (Plus Meat is murder is not "accurate"). Besides nitpicking on the covers, the material is flimsy and soft. I much prefer the hard covers. And I could probably go on forever, but in general just am not a fan of these. Either than the covers i'd say that the audio is fairly well.
LOL
Nice review

At first, I thought maybe the person's cell phone took crappy photo's but nah, mate, I had a look around elsewhere and they are awful.
I have no idea, why people buy all the reissues when they don't have extra tracks and shit
It's about addiction, an autistic need to fill the fecking void. it's pretty anti-Smiths in spirit really. Given The Smiths were about truth, art and a pretty honest relationship with fans. M and Marr generally thought most reissues were cash grabs. Maybe they changed their mind when they got older and needed a pension top-up
All bands get their transporter fans, people get all inked-up with tats of the band of choice. I remember seeing some twat post saying this is what happens when people have no god in their life, no religion and no father figure when growing up . At the time I thought the prick was a god botherer but he is probs right.

Some of this is Warners capitalising on things like young people using TCM or Back To The Old House (!) as background music on Tiktok and the such.
Couple that with the fact the better produced/packaged discs are no longer being made and a spike in social media nostalgia posts by Warner = people who are curious might buy them (no different to newer generations buying one of the many, many versions of The Dark Side Of The Moon).
Again, take it with a pinch of salt, but my Warner rep is adamant that Warner HQ can reissue things they 'own'. It is only when fully redesigning or changing / adding to that Marr and Morrissey are required to agree to anything.
As selling only a handful can lead to 'charting', that will probably be something leapt upon by Central whether consulted or not and probably despite having no say in what Warner reissues/restock.

Fair enough on Jobriath. Of all the artists Moz has attempted to champion I find Jobriath listenable, and I quite like Kristeen. That’s about it— being from the Midwest, I was already a Smoking Popes fan before he took them out in 97. I had dinner with Kristeen a few times in 2018/2019 and she had nothing but nice things to say about Moz, surprisingly.

Do people have CD players except in the car? Even the PS4 and Ps5 can't play music CDs.

Yes, vinyl records may be the big trendy thing at the moment, but there's still plenty of us folks who prefer to listen on CD. It's still my preferred format - cheaper than vinyl, better sound quality with no crackles or surface noise, and unlike Spotify the artists actually earn some reasonable royalties.
