Morrissey's worldview "I'm for plain text"

"Morrissey praises the Brexit referendum, defends Kevin Spacey and calls Berlin a "rape capital" because of its open borders. seriously?"

Whether the Briton Steven Patrick Morrissey, 58, a musician just Morrissey calls, now Genius is or Schrat, self-actor or choleric poet, will probably never settle final. Certainly the man from Manchester, who became famous in the eighties as a singer of pop band The Smiths, is a great eccentric of pop. Whether concert or interview, he maintains the pose of the diva. The meeting took place on the occasion of his new album "Low in High School" in Los Angeles; It was arranged at very short notice and then postponed several times, domination gestures want to be maintained. After all, Morrissey is ready to talk. However, the photographer is referred by one of his managers rude of the room: "Get out of my hotel!" The Polaroid photo was taken by the interviewer.

An interview with Juliane Liebert

SPIEGEL: Mr Morrissey, in your new song "Spent the Day in Bed", you recommend that you no longer see any news. A serious proposal?

Morrissey: Yes. People should stop doing so for their own sanity. You have to stop. The news is just social engineering, and it's about control, not information. There are no more messages. Only control.

SPIEGEL: That sounds like Trump's fake news, but you just spoke out against Trump at a concert.

Morrissey: Trump has received so much attention, especially when compared to other candidates - Bernie Sanders, for example. Although the media said he will not win, every day, all the headlines: Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump! The American media helped Trump, yes, they first created it. Whether they criticize him or laugh at him, he does not care, he just wants to see his picture and his name. The American media have shot themselves in the leg. Since he was in power, he has exhausted the world. He grabs after everything like a little child. He is not a leader. He is a vermin. A huge vermin.

SPIEGEL: Do you think that he will be re-elected?

Civil War? Bwah! The only civil war will be between anonymous online commenters. No way in hell will people decide en masse to start a war, and vacate their comfortable lives over such petty paranoia. Besides, don't give your opponents a valid, legal reason to blow your brains out

This isn't 1865. People are more interconnected now than then. The standards of living are higher, and there's more to protect. People aren't raising their kids for loony knee-jerk wars. Minorities in America, and Great Britain will become the majority in the not too distant future.

At best, you'll get what is already happening, and that is people like you encouraging nut jobs with nothing to lose to murder innocent people, and turning the public against their ideas.

Those Nazis rallies in the U.S. are a perfect example. The minute the public pushes back, they go into hiding. The Internet is now your standard bigot's safe space because their ideas can't compete in the real world.
Ever heard of a democratic route? That is what Britain is doing now, if ignored, well, the obvious will be the only option left and nobody wants that.

There are actually people posting on here JUSTIFYING SEXUAL ASSAULT to shore up Morrissey's comments. And there are people who don't like that being pointed out.

There are people who know he hates immigrants, who know sexual assault is illegal and wrong, and yet still post/vote in support of the man. What is going on your brain?

oh f*** off you uptight twat. when I was 14 I was perfectly capable of deciding who touched my cock. As Anthony Rapp clearly was - he left the apartment when Spacey came on to him. Why did he and his 17 year old friend accept an invite to Spacey's apartment? And he then left. Spacey didnt hit him or stop him leaving. How is that sexual assault? A clumsy and pathetic old man? yes. Sexual assault? oh come on. Victorian values are clearly back in vogue.

Right wing / left wing? Those terms are so 20th century. Moz is expressing views on immigration that millions of working class people all over Europe share. The more such views are forbidden by the mainstream the more those same millions will be attracted by extremist parties as the only outlet.

Sorry, but these sorts of comments always amuse me. They suggest that just because immigration exists (as it should obviously), that it also follows that uncontrolled immigration must or should exist.

People forget that before Brexit the leaders of the 3 biggest political parties all said the same basic thing: "Immigration is a good thing, but uncontrolled immigration is a bad thing."

Brexit is unlikely to even happen in its demanded form, and even if it did, it has already been established that it will not reduce immigration. So, Brexiters are blowing up the European Union, who's main purpose was to avoid the constant wars that wrecked the continent in previous centuries, for nothing. It's the very definition of a knee-jerk reaction.

People are forgetting the lessons learned from the spread of fascism in the early part of last century. We now have to go through this all over again because voters don't care about history. They're ignorant. Countries are no longer united due to the rise of hyper-individualism, and the lack of ongoing wars that were a feature of the past.

These direct democracy referendums are a terrible idea because it assumes voters are voting out of an intellectual understanding of important tissues. America's founding fathers understood this, and it's why America's political system is the way it is. It was designed as a Republic because of the foolishness that the majority often exhibits on important issues. It's not perfect, but this idea needs to be emphasized. The tyranny of the majority is being played out with Brexit.

Most people who speak on this topic are reactionary. They don't understand the minutiae of what is going on. It's one of the main problems with democracies in their various forms. It acts a release valve for public disenchantment, but it also invites uneducated, knee-jerk responses that hurt minorities, and even the best interests of the majority.

A perfect example is that people who tend to live around the fewest number of minorities, tend to hold the most fear about their existence. They are not making these decisions from a position of knowledge, or personal experience. They are making these decisions based on shallow, tribal identity. They're crippling themselves for little gain.

Anyway, can we get back to talking about how Morrissey has a ruined a career that ended a decade ago?

Yeah, to hell with substance. Let's just recite every inane thought that passes through our heads because that's what makes for a civil society where important issues are treated with tact, and consideration.

It's a sure recipe for bringing people together, and it's doing a great job of solving the current problems we are facing. People are as outspoken today and they have ever been, and the world is full of cooperation.

Somehow, I don't think spouting ignorance as a from of catharsis is going to make many other people happy, besides the speaker.

We once cherished tact in public for a reason. The Internet has abolished it as a standard for discourse. Have fun with the aftermath.

The reality is, until people start to feel the fallout for their callous remarks, it will continue unabated.

We're already seeing signs that the pendulum is swinging back, and many people are going to have a hard time explaining themselves in the future. Good luck.

Sorry to interrupt but just for future ref this interview shall be archived under the heading

I love Moz for this interview. At last someone talks some common sense about the puritanical sexual politics that seem now to be in vogue. And he is entitled to his views on immigration and national identity. To describe them as racist is simply to avoid intelligent debate and bury your head in the sand.

If only the masses were as intelligent and educated as you, eh? Leave them to their fish and chips and reactionary views...

"Millions of people have died for German identity"

Does he mean the millions slaughtered as a result of Germans trying to create a Jew free 1000 year Reich and "living space" in Eastern Europe?

The Mayor of Tel Aviv should tell Morrissey he can shove the city's key right up his rear cleavage.

Growing up, even if I did not agree with everything he said, his interviews were a refreshing change from the usual bland showbiz crap from bands like Duran Duran and Wham!

Nowadays, his interviews have all the thrilling controversy of a 5 year old child walking into their living room to discover the local vicar/priest has called for tea and starts shouting out words like "BUM!" "WILLIE!" "ARSE!" before being escorted out by its mother.

Ever heard of a democratic route? That is what Britain is doing now, if ignored, well, the obvious will be the only option left and nobody wants that.

Oh, enough. British people are already regretting the referendum. There's no broad public will left for a hard Brexit. It was a temper tantrum like Trump's election. Democrats just ran the table in Virginia, erasing virtually all gains made by Republicans under Obama. They flipped seats in the Oklahoma legislature that were dominant Trump enclaves. They flipped Trump districts in Georgia, and they might even flip a seat in god-forsaken Alabama because the candidate is a pedarist. Welcome to the political cycle. What goes around, comes around.

A bunch of old farts pining for a final solution are not going to be making the decisions in future elections. Accept it, admit you f***ed up, and get on with your petty life.

You're just another person who's going to live and die, railing against the dying of the light.

The British Press is left-wing?

Probably as likely as the Royal Family saluting to Oliver Cromwell.

I stopped reading at - "Oh, enough. British people are already regretting the referendum." Sorry.

He should have titled his new album "Axe The Morrissey."

It's what he's doing to himself.

In my more cynical moments, I think Morrissey's comments are meant to ruin The Smiths legacy, since he said himself that Joyce killed it, and he is no longer profiting from their sales because of his failed court case. It's his way of writing off the past, and making it radioactive to those who might benefit from it.

Why let Marr, and the rest take credit for it when he doesn't benefit, and it's not all about him? People don't take his current band seriously, and they're considered amorphous session musicians with no definable sound. It's all about him.

Probably his friend Nigel told him about the 'rape capital' an he confounded the cities...

Well done mate! Morrissey exactly sums up the far right views on migrants ...could it be Germany , France ....
He even saw le Pen winning the presidential debate..........!!

Morrissey it is time you retire in Paraguay with some of your friends , you are talking bullshit. You don'tknow much of Europe , you don't live there a

Lol - BMG must be shitting themselves this morning...

Did they honestly think they were going to catch some "You Are the Quarry" style magic in 2017?

BMG let Morrissey take them home, and pull their pants down from behind like Kevin Spacey on a fourteen year old.

What about that silly mayor in Los Angeles who created Morrissey Day? Does she even know what his thoughts on anything are?

People really need to be more cautious of honoring, and fellating people they barely know.

I stopped reading at - "Oh, enough. British people are already regretting the referendum." Sorry.

Keep those fingers firmly planted in your ears. It will be like a kid on Christmas day realizing that Santa is an idiot who delivered the wrong play-set.

Spoiler alert: It was their parent's fault.
