Morrissey’s view on gender identity

Maybe you won’t be so ‘alarmed and bewildered’, after I tell you, that in 1988, Morrissey once stated in a Blitz magazine interview ….

I've always felt closer to transexuality than anything else.”

And he was being serious.

Oh yes I believe that , and don't think he says anything that he doesn't mean .......

I think I would be puzzled if he started to turn like Boy George and said he was a women and dressed up in full heavy drag with breast implants. He doesn't seem like he is coming from that angle. Maybe in another way he feels like this, maybe harder to describe, more subtle - but not in a brash way like Boy George or Rupauls dragrace................. or even someone who is a women but is a man.

Bona drag? or something more subtle? always the rebel … striking a pose .. his runway is Death Valley, … naturally.

No! Not the Bona Drag video! Ah :lbf: :paranoid:
........
Is he a typical rebel?? Does he use gender as an act of rebellion, it doesn't strike me as obvious. Moz is smoke and mirrors, cards close to his chest. Which is odd because he is a poser and like's being up on stage. Who knows who the real Morrissey is...

Morrissey 'the last true enigma', I remember being said on a documentary. The Importance of Being Morrissey.

Another read...............

I will love you and leave you, if his next record is released I'd be glad...............

I think Morrissey has grown into himself with age, just watching the music vid November Spawned A Monster has made be realise that. He is more himself now

He is probably the most deliberately provocative person on the planet, but you know he was being serious :lbf: because you know all of his inner thoughts and feelings

Morrissey announcing he is trans would be the ideal career move at this point, and probably the only thing which would redeem him in the eyes of those online activists who have previously 'cancelled' him. Instantly, he would be immune to attack and a cause for celebration. Capitol Records would be forced to issue 'Bonfire' immediately, or run the risk of being accused of being transphobic. Billy Bragg would be singing his praises in the street and The Guardian would name him 'Woman of the Year'. I'm astonished he hasn't done this yet.

do you know when he said that? it depends on the date that he said it, because that makes a big difference to what he meant.
I don't doubt it was serious, but he can be provoking

If Morrissey posted on Morrissey-Central tomorrow under the banner

'I HAVE BROKEN THE VEIL, I AM STEPHANIE MORRISSEY'

I would think, well you hid that well - and I would be alarmed and bewildered.

I don't think he has that stance on gender identity, he seems to be an observer and he is a voice and confidence pillar for those that have neither.
I wouldn't be very surprised, after all, I Am Veronica is a recent song of his. I've always thought that if he'd had a careers officer at his school and had been asked what he might like to do when he left school, he might have suggested Page 3 Girl as an ideal job!

hmmm... I don't think it works quite like that, otherwise everyone would be doing it! you can't just switch and chop and change your gender when ever you like, to get what you want - everyone knows this.

He almost had the moobs for it, at one point...

Do you have proof they actually said this, what source?

I know that most departments of work,

education and health care centres.. have a odd corruption ethic running

through the margins and the funny employee. Then it seems the

whole institution are damaged on the heads of the group that screwed it up!

I've been there or shall I say outta there, not fast enough.
Few staff would admit to telling that sort of joke, but it has been referred to regularly in reporting on the subject. What is clear, is that several staff working there have stated their concern that there was an emphasis on 'gender identity' above everything else, affirming the presumed gender identity without question, and a neglect of other issues that could explain the 'dysphoria', such as mental health problems, autism, learning disabilities, and confusion about homosexual or bisexual feelings.

He does meet the modern definition of transgender & has talked about it throughout his career.

It would be a good market for him - although he doesn't like the hoopla & is highly unlikely to accept a label just to get nice press coverage.

'Closer to' being the key phrase. Maybe he is just saying - I identify with that level of bodily alienation and unhappiness. He's not necessarily saying - hey, I'm trans!

He does not meet the definition of transgender , what are you talking about. Literally Ive been listening to him for years and its never even crossed my mind. Is the modern definition more relaxed? In a way If I have to really think about it, I have seen Morrissey as almost genderless, I just see him as himself. I don't look at him and get the same aura or energy or presense that I do around women, thays why I see him as a man, he has the presence of a man. He does not have the presence of a regular four corners straight man, and he has a feminine touch.

Being genderless comes under the modern definition of transgender. They'd call it agender.

Essentially if your inner gender self-image doesn't match the external sex you were born in - for whatever reason - then you could be trans.

Why do we have to label everyone all the time, I don't agree with it and don't do it myself. People need to get over themselves alittle bit, it might do them some good.

Good points both. Maybe someday all people will be treated equally. That’s if we don’t destroy this planet first.

Then it's the bomb that will bring us together’

Can we move on to another topic now, please? My suggestion: Morrissey's view on block paving?
I suggest you start a thread on 'Morrissey's view on block paving', which I think it limited- I don't think hes expressed any views on that particular subject. this thread is titled Morrisseys view on gender identity, so thats what people are trying to discuss here, maybe at no end
