Morrissey Central "Madness." (December 1, 2024)

"Wikipedia confidently list me as an ex-member of Slaughter And The Dogs, and an ex-member of The Nosebleeds. I did not ever join The Nosebleeds and I have no connection whatsoever with Slaughter And The Dogs. Is there anyone at Wikipedia intelligent enough to set the record straight? Probably not." You must be familiar with his song Once I saw the river Babylon clean?
I did weigh that one up when posting my own joke, but went with Daddy Cool. I think I was right to.

During the trademark drama (“I alone came up with the words “the smiths” in 1982”) recently, he mentioned what Johnny wanted to call the band, and it was a detail I had never heard before. I’m just curious if anyone else has heard this? The name is god awful and I kinda get why Morrissey would be upset that the guy who wanted to call the band “ ____ ____” actually controls the trademark for “the smiths”.

So 18-year old Johnny Marr had a goofy idea 42 years ago. Give me a break.

I'd rather hear a Nosebleeds (or whatever Morrissey wants to call it) reunion than a Smiths one. I wanna hear 'Peppermint Heaven'! :guitar:

Lol. He's such a Boomer. Who cares, if he did sing or did not sing in two groups nobody outside the then Manchester scene knows? And he obviously still does not know how Wikipedia works (wasn't this also an issue a while back?). Anyway, has he googled himself again?
He just doesn't want his name, appearing in context of a band name, that bears the word "Slaughter" as long as it's not man slaughter.

I understand his pain. I've been going around claiming to be All the things folk love, but I'm not all the things you lot love. I'm not, I'm really not.

This is so disturbing. He’s moved into his dead mother’s house. He’s posting obituaries for Old Hollywood. He’s isolating himself and clearly concerned about his legacy in some weird way as evidenced by this.

Confidently? Nobody is even around to tell him how Wikipedia works? This is the first thing he’s ever posted that on its face just makes him look out of touch and outright stupid. I fear what’s next.
Maybe someone needs to do a documentary on him and it’ll come out like the where’s Wendy Williams documentary…train wreck

Bro is so bored that he read his own Wikipedia page.

Honestly, I feel we’d all do that, but actively admitting it is definitely a choice that has been made.

On a real note though, I sympathize. This is the exact type of behavior my dad participates in. He’s a good guy, but he’s pretty bitter with how his life has turned out, so he’s often at the computer, fixating on things. Moz posting obituaries for dead celebrities on his website is honestly not so different from your relative posting the same thing on Facebook. And you know, it’s a coping mechanism for sure. A healthy one? Probably not. But who are we to judge. We’ve all got some. (Once again, I am politely requesting that someone takes his computer away - and I don’t wanna hear “oh, but free speech boohoo”. No. No more. Please.)

I don't honestly think it's disturbing. He's a man in his mid 60s who was poleaxed by the death of his beloved mother - I can certainly imagine finding comfort in being in that house, surrounded by those memories. The posting of obituaries: he's been obsessed by death since a very young age, and he's been prone to hero worship for just as long - so this really isn't surprising either. And as for being concerned about his legacy, that seems only natural, really?
Thank you.
So many of us (myself included) keep projecting things on to Morrissey as if he was normal or typical. And he's not. It feels like all we can do now is watch, as the weirdness keeps unfolding. (Or, as the malady lingers on...)

thank you. (y)

Huh? I was just wondering if anyone else has heard this other name.

maybe you heard it during one of those ‘insider’ zoom meetings? 😉

But he was a member of Madness, right?
LOL
No, but he wanted his member in one of Madness, Chas (It may have been gossip)
Although, Chas, told me, M also asked him to manage him
FWD is correct with his posts as well. It is documented that M was in Nosebleeds and Slaughter
Back when I used to travel to Manchester back in the day, to Smiths gigs, a few people mentioned they went to the gig M did with Slaughter
( Manc Clive and John used to always mention the gig, if you are on this site Clive, tell them your stories )
I think a lot was lying about going but it was true that M did some work with the band. I heard the reason
they got the gig with Magazine was due to M's friendship with Linder (Linder and Howard were friends with benefits) Not sure if this is true, that's just what I heard. Also, I swear Billy said that M is still in a mood with him, as they nicked his lyrics

What is fecking odd, is why M would lie about something, like this, given it is hardly a well-kept secret
Also, this fact has been mentioned in a few books and articles, so why not call it out then, rather than blame Wiki, now?

I mean it is even on Rhino Records website, a former label of M's
https://www.rhino.com/article/5-things-you-might-not-know-about-morrissey
"Neither of the gigs lasted very long, but both opportunities came about as a result of the same musician: guitarist Billy Duffy, soon to find fame as the axeman for The Cult. Whilst with The Nosebleeds, Morrissey co-wrote a few songs for the band with such memorable titles as “Peppermint Heaven” and “I Think I’m Ready for the Electric Chair,” but the band disbanded before getting much of anywhere. As for Slaughter and the Dogs, Morrissey recorded four songs with the band and fronted the band when they auditioned for a record deal, but that didn’t end up going anywhere, "

It's funny, Billy should be given more credit for M's journey, given he not only got M involved in both bands. Nosebleeds and Slaughter, but was the one who told Johnny about M, or at least suggested Johnny reach out to M . Maybe, no Billy no Smiths.
M really does live in a fantasy world, at times. I wonder if he knows he is fibbing?

Off-topic, I was in Brighton, with the Fam a week ago and saw this busker, called Nathen. Brilliant guitar player, he did a load of
Smith's songs, the best covers ever.

What a joke he has become.

Concerned about people thinking he was in a band he wasn’t way back in 1922, while his empire burns.

When I became a fan at 14 in 1990, I never thought it would end like this.

That he doesn’t even know how Wikipedia works is hilarious. And you all think he is capable of self releasing music and think he doesn’t read every word here.

Does anyone know what Johnny originally wanted to call The Smiths?
It's worse, he is concerned about people wrongly thinking he was in a couple of bands, back in "1922", So concerned he posted about it.
Yet he was actually fecking in those bands for a while and this has been written about in a few articles and books.
