I'm torn between thinking it's interesting and I'd probably have a great time if I was there, and thinking the whole set-up and situation is stupid. I welcome anything that celebrates The Smiths or brings them to a new audience but really, Morrissey and Marr should be looking back on their legacy and planning this kind of stuff together if it happens at all. Instead they are essentially doing versions of the same things separately, whilst not speaking. It's farcical. It's ego and stubbornness and stupidity and they both need to grow the f*** up.

Yes. In a better world, this thread subject would be a Central post.

Morrissey sings them better, Johnny plays them better, don't thinks there's any debate about that, although I do wonder what Morrissey would sound like if he played guitar and sang them at the same time.
If the How Soon Is Now Video is anything to go by, not well.

Pink? cool (y)

No, I don't know any of her songs but I know all of The Smiths, Morrissey's and Johnny's songs which in the main are all great, last night was a spectacular rendition of some of The Smiths, Electronic and Johnny's solo stuff. The reviews of the 2 gigs are brilliant.

Exactly. Yet such is the general ludicrousness that Central - a site where posters in toilets, radio snippets in soaps, airplay on Strictly Come Dancing and random nobodies wearing merchandise are all considered to be hot 'relevant news' - now has to ignore this very relevant news because it's not "on message" when you're squabbling like 12-year-olds. Fgs.

He only played 5 Smiths songs Amy, which is less than Morrissey is playing on his current tour, the majority of the set was his solo stuff.

This concert was super! Honestly the orchestra was so cool. I wish more concerts had this

kinda funny that MOZ can sing better than ever but has a sh!t live band.. the worst in his 40 year career! They can't even play his songs correctly without the help of backing tracks... which is the reason the setlist hasn't changed this year.

Johnny and Alain both can't sing like MOZ but have awesome bands... much much much much more better than what MOZ currently has backing him.

How lame. He's the one stuck in the old days. And of course, here comes the M attacks.
Anyhow this dwarf minded guitar player never did something as relevant post The Smiths.

M said sooo many times that he will never reunite with The Smiths. He would eat his own testicles before. That's a lot coming from a non meat eater. And why playing again with a dwarf that openly hates him? M doesn't need him, but the dwarf minded needs him indeed. M moved forward.

Saw this on Instagram, very touching.

Oops, the silly bitter man is back, Johnny's just played to 10000 people with the majority of his set being his solo stuff, he's also just recently released another album that landed in the top 10 in the charts. Don't see many M attacks in this thread either.

Can you imagine paying money to watch Jesse and Carmen butcher Smiths songs?

I know right! what a waste of money!
MOZ's current "band" is so amateur sounding and looking now!
Its no wonder the Quarry shows aren't selling out!

Do you have learning difficulties Sam?

While Johnny isn't the best singer in the world the audience's dreadful performance ruined all these songs. Hopefully better recordings are out there.

We could only hope or assume that Johnny would have these shows recorded professionally to mix later and if he likes them enough , then release them.

Probably not but 10000 people paid to see Johnny Marr play lots of his solo stuff along with some Smiths and Electronic songs.

so it must be good?

More people pay Pink to perform her songs, so I guess you think her songs/performance is good too?

The point went over your head. And Surface, I would think you must be as bored as me, because we’ve had this discussion many times before. Anyway, the point is… the number of people that pay to see a performer doesn’t actually mean that the songs, performance is actually good, nor does popularity magically turn someone’s music or show into art or music of good quality.

That’s not to say what musical acts do can’t be enjoyed for whatever reason people enjoy them for.

Edit: btw, I’m not knocking Johnny. But I think he really should have done 2 nights of just Smiths songs to be honest.

I know that people are - obviously - Smiths obsessed on this site (as am I), but when I saw Johnny play the Thursday night show with the orchestra, the biggest cheers came for the two Electronic songs.

You lot dread this Marr performance… well how are you going to convince Moz and Marr to fix their relationship??
Someone must have a brilliant plan to get them sorted and on the same page once again.
And if there isn’t one, why isn’t more time dedicated to doing so??
Surely if this is the ultimate dream for admirers of both artists then one would think there would be some grand conspiracy amongst super fans to finally get the two smiths on stage together again…. Sort your shit out mate
