English version:

The Audio of DER SPIEGEL's Interview with Morrissey
British pop singer Morrissey has accused DER SPIEGEL of falsely quoting him in a recently published interview. The magazine stands behind its reporting and has made the decision to post the audio online in response.

On Friday, Nov. 10, DER SPIEGEL culture reporter Juliane Liebert told her editors that she had been offered an interview with British popstar Morrissey and that a decision needed to be made quickly on whether to accept. We agreed: The former lead singer of The Smiths doesn't shy away from speaking his mind - and he also doesn't grant interviews very often.

The following Monday, Liebert flew to Los Angeles, where she was to interview Morrissey on Tuesday. The interview appointment got delayed several times before finally taking place on Wednesday and lasting 40 minutes. Edited versions of interviews published in DER SPIEGEL are usually authorized by the interview subject before publication, consistent with established procedure in German journalism. But in this instance, Morrissey's team elected to forego authorization.

After its publication on Nov. 18 in DER SPIEGEL, the interview (available behind the SPIEGEL Plus paywall in German) generated headlines not only in the German-language media. English publications like the Independent also wrote about Morrissey's statements regarding Trump, Brexit, the #MeToo debate and questions of national identity.

The musician then sought to distance himself from the published interview. "Unless you see the words form in my mouth and then you see or hear the words come out of my mouth... please, if you don't see that, I didn't say them," he told fans at a concert. He said he would never grant an interview to a print journalist again.

On Monday, Morrissey followed up with a post on his official Facebook page casting doubt on whether his statements had been reflected accurately by DER SPIEGEL. He also alleged that the fact that the magazine had not yet posted the raw audio of the interview was tantamount to an indirect admission of guilt.

To counter that claim, the editors of DER SPIEGEL have decided to post the audio of the interview online.

There is a missing part is which Morrissey said: "Sweetness, I was only joking...".
Agreed, there were two cuts but it doesn't change the guts of what he said.

I have it on very good authority he is drunk alot of the time. All I say. Get drunk and f*** the world. Especially Uncle Skinny. It's embarrassing that he goes on here everyday lol

It was the only option he had. Hearing the tone of the meeting and how he articulates his thought on these issues allows to bring nuances. It is not as tough as when one reads the print edited version. One can also wonder why people pretend to be shocked his view about multiculturalism now. He said in 1995 when he first used Eurostar and crossed the channel, that it had been like a personal defeat for him. He has always written about multiculturalism, questioning it (Asian Rut, Bengali in...) . His speech about Merkel's politics is not surprising, he argues, rightly saying people fell on fields to defend their nation but this is where I disagree with his parallel, it was during wars, when France/Belgium were threatened during WWI for instance, dreading the name of their country would vanish. There is no war with immigrants who want to escape their country for political reasons.
The sentence "Berlin capital of rape" is a shortcut and no one should make generalities about a ethnic or gender or genre group after a misbehaviour of a number of people. He explains his view when mentioning the beauty of the languages, the cultures... This is interesting.

I don't share some of his views but he's got the right to say them. Then, tose agressive reactions and these journalists who don't bring nuances on purpose he got, are another problem.
Morrissey said that Germany was the rape capital of Europe, which is not far off the mark. Actually per capita it's Malmo in Sweden. Since the recent arrival of huge numbers of migrants in these places rape and sexual assault statistics have rocketed. It's worrying, and anyone who cares about other human beings should be concerned.

Careful.

Huge Morrissey fan here. I hoped the other day when his statement came out that he was misquoted.

But, after listening to the interview... He said all the things they said he did. Feel bad that the reporter is getting so much flack, she asked the questions and he answered.

I'll always love the music, but the man himself is proving to be a complete douche
The man himself has been publicly airing supposedly controversial comments since 1983. But people are only offended now. That says something worrying about the age we live in.

All I have heard to this point is a guy who loves animals and applies his opinion and common sense to political issues. Oh and a woman who should never be interviewing anyone. Can we say Non-Fluency nightmare - . I think you're all just mindless herd animals who can't think for themselves. He points out the situation in Germany, which is fact, he has pointed out the open border problems in the UK, which is fact. What the f is wrong with you herd monkeys. ah-huh ah-huh ah-huh. ah-huh. ah-huh Ya uh-huh, Ya, uh-huh, uh-huh.

You need to realize that what you are saying normalizes mistrust in real victims and makes it difficult for more real victims to come forward. Every time that someone brings up "But what about the minority that are falsely accused" in response to dealing with sexual abuse, there are people out there who have been too afraid to say anything about how they've been hurt thinking "Well, maybe if I come forward, I won't be believed and everything will just get worse." It's about those people. It's always about the victim. Anyone with a brain can tell that I'm not saying "everyone accused of sexual assault is guilty." But that's not the f***ing point. The point is creating an landscape where those shoved into silence can finally come forward about the atrocities that have happened to them and hopefully put the perpetrators away forever.

The point is you want people to be 'Guilty' until proven innocent. You are mindless.

I posted this a little prematurely in an earlier thread on this topic, but now it's official:

"And all those lies
Written lies, twisted lies
Well, they weren't lies
They weren't lies
They weren't lies"
