Sänger Morrissey fühlt sich nach einem Interview mit dem SPIEGEL falsch zitiert und will nun nie wieder mit Printmedien sprechen. Hören Sie hier den Mitschnitt des Interviews.

English version:

The Audio of DER SPIEGEL's Interview with Morrissey
British pop singer Morrissey has accused DER SPIEGEL of falsely quoting him in a recently published interview. The magazine stands behind its reporting and has made the decision to post the audio online in response.

On Friday, Nov. 10, DER SPIEGEL culture reporter Juliane Liebert told her editors that she had been offered an interview with British popstar Morrissey and that a decision needed to be made quickly on whether to accept. We agreed: The former lead singer of The Smiths doesn't shy away from speaking his mind - and he also doesn't grant interviews very often.

The following Monday, Liebert flew to Los Angeles, where she was to interview Morrissey on Tuesday. The interview appointment got delayed several times before finally taking place on Wednesday and lasting 40 minutes. Edited versions of interviews published in DER SPIEGEL are usually authorized by the interview subject before publication, consistent with established procedure in German journalism. But in this instance, Morrissey's team elected to forego authorization.

After its publication on Nov. 18 in DER SPIEGEL, the interview (available behind the SPIEGEL Plus paywall in German) generated headlines not only in the German-language media. English publications like the Independent also wrote about Morrissey's statements regarding Trump, Brexit, the #MeToo debate and questions of national identity.

The musician then sought to distance himself from the published interview. "Unless you see the words form in my mouth and then you see or hear the words come out of my mouth... please, if you don't see that, I didn't say them," he told fans at a concert. He said he would never grant an interview to a print journalist again.

On Monday, Morrissey followed up with a post on his official Facebook page casting doubt on whether his statements had been reflected accurately by DER SPIEGEL. He also alleged that the fact that the magazine had not yet posted the raw audio of the interview was tantamount to an indirect admission of guilt.

To counter that claim, the editors of DER SPIEGEL have decided to post the audio of the interview online.

You can listen to the interview conducted with Morrissey in Los Angeles on Nov. 15 here:

I posted this a little prematurely in an earlier thread on this topic, but now it's official:

"And all those lies
Written lies, twisted lies
Well, they weren't lies
They weren't lies
They weren't lies"

Oh deary me, quoting Morrissey lyrics back on himself! Can you feel the bern!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Morrissey said that Germany was the rape capital of Europe, which is not far off the mark. Actually per capita it's Malmo in Sweden. Since the recent arrival of huge numbers of migrants in these places rape and sexual assault statistics have rocketed. It's worrying, and anyone who cares about other human beings should be concerned.

It was long ago Malmö was seen as swedish. The place is in Skåne where the people are a mix between swedes and danes who speak with an accent sounding like a scouser has his throat full of porridge.

Still they win the swedish football league every year.

The man himself has been publicly airing supposedly controversial comments since 1983. But people are only offended now. That says something worrying about the age we live in.

You are so correct. And the douche bags taking the moral high ground are the same ones who think it's OK to enslave animals and kill them, but stating facts about the impact of open borders is a bad thing. Please less of you go to the next round of shows. I arrived late and had trouble getting remotely close to the stage. I

Actually, I find Morrissey's ability to nail himself in lyrics to be fascinating. ("The words you use should be your own", "Reissue, repackage, repackage", "You're making a fool of yourself so get off the stage"). Can you think of another artist whose self-critiques (whether intentional or not) are so spot on?

Michael Jackson singing 'Black or White' was a ripper :lbf: But seriously quoting Moz lyrics back on him is like lazy journalists who title their pieces on Moz 'Heaven Knows He's Miserable Now.' If you're going to rip into him, use some original language I say :thumb:

That might be what makes Morrissey so fascinating compared to anybody else in the public eye.. His honesty, self-criticism and... perhaps even self-sabotage.

Well it sounds like from this thread that this is the final nail in the coffin for a lot of people, moderators included! I would hope then, if you think of yourselves as well adjusted people that this is the last time we’ll see a lot of you posting around here. Afterall, if this evil man has nothing left to offer you and he outrages you so much, why not move on to greener pastures and fill your life with more positive things? To continue to hang around and beat a dead horse and talk over and over about how someone is so awful seems unhealthy, counterproductive and redundant. It would say a lot more about you than it does about Morrissey. So, yeah, I guess this is goodbye for a lot of you!

Ha, but Pokey, they want to save us!
They want us to see the light!
As long as there is one person here expressing a minor appreciation for his music they will go on!

They apparently believe they are on a holy mission, not completely dissimilar to a religious one.

They know “The” Truth. Their moral viewpoint on anything must prevail.
Moz is dangerous!

They want to save our souls!
Moz is the ultimate scapegoat for them as any religion needs one.

Blame it all on him, Satan the devil himself and everything will turn out right again.

The most tragic thing of it all is that many of them mean well, but as tbe saying goes: the road to hell is plastered with good intentions.

I can’t tell you how miserable I feel when I have to raise arguments against, many times, young people who want to enjoy their lives, are enthusiastic about music and have, as many young people a charming, naive and romantic view on life. And very strong emotions about anything. As ALL young people should have.

Like what Moz sings about in “All The Young People MUST Fall In Love.

It is a miserable feeling to appear to be taken that away, which is not my intention. To seem to be a bitter, old know it all dude. Which I am not.

As if it is my aim to take away their lust for life.

Oh Youth, don’t blame me cause I am the one who told you.

I agree. I'd like Morrissey to start playing more intimate venues.

Nearly ninety percent of it is just made up by internet randoms, though.
Not in this case. The explosion of male migrants into places like Germany and Sweden is plain to see and is changing those countries forever, for the worst. For somebody in the public eye, it seems Morrissey is completely alone in even acknowledging facts such as this.

I have said goodbye, before this. Probably more around the time on the Manchester bombing statement. I haven’t heard the new album, I haven’t bought any tickets for the upcoming tour, etc. But I will still pop by here to watch this car crash unfold.

So your goodbye wasn’t exactly a goodbye cause, hey here you are agatn.
Why would I then believe anything else you are saying?

And why do you like to watch especially THIS car crash unfold?

It sounds a bit like you enjoy to watch unfold a carcrash which baffles me as there could be lives at stake.
Or maybe it is only this one?
Just asking.

What has he done to you personally to wish such a bad thing happening to him?

What exactly he said about the Manchester bombing that put you off?
He didn’t say anything wrong about the victims, to the contrary, he was full of compassion for them.

The point is you want people to be 'Guilty' until proven innocent. You are mindless.

The point is when someone admits to being sexually assaulted, your first instinct shouldn't be to go "Well you know, some people lie about that." The dismissive mentality toward victims who come forward has literally resulted in a rapist being sworn in as President of the United States.

Ahh so you're saying this goes back to Bill Clinton?? :paranoid:

Ha ha, do you actually believe that Donald Trump is a rapist? Stop reading the news. Seriously.

Oh so I assume you're talking about Lewinsky the the way they were all (Hilary too) completely ready to destroy that girl's life and label her a fantasist right before they learned she had been clever enough to keep that dress? Yeah, you could be on to something here. They did the same thing to Juanita Broderick too.

You're saying all this as if I had said "I'm with her." I am well aware of everything you mentioned.

These things are never down to one man and is indeed down to the actions of many men and even some women. You americans place far too much in a president and need a monarchy with some flair and elegance and good mannered dinner parties live on tv.

You need to realize that what you are saying normalizes mistrust in real victims and makes it difficult for more real victims to come forward. Every time that someone brings up "But what about the minority that are falsely accused" in response to dealing with sexual abuse, there are people out there who have been too afraid to say anything about how they've been hurt thinking "Well, maybe if I come forward, I won't be believed and everything will just get worse." It's about those people. It's always about the victim. Anyone with a brain can tell that I'm not saying "everyone accused of sexual assault is guilty." But that's not the f***ing point. The point is creating an landscape where those shoved into silence can finally come forward about the atrocities that have happened to them and hopefully put the perpetrators away forever.

Well put. The only caveat would be that instead of going public and hiring someone like Gloria Allred go the authorities first. False accusations do occur. But that may now be the post-Trump era because in the not-so good old days when America really wasn't that great it just wasn't as easy to come out. In fact it was dreadfully difficult. S0 the only justice some'll ever get (thanks to statute of limitations) is publicly exposing someone. Now when this occurs and the offender truly repents and does the right thing that's fine and dandy....but there will still be consequences. That's just the way it's played out. No, it's not perfect. It's not entirely fair. It's unfortunate that so many predators went to their graves without answering for their crimes. But it just is. There are consequences to one's actions. It's messy but it's progress, which is almost always messy.

So one phrase we should immediately eliminate from the conversation is either "Why didn't they come out sooner?" or "They shouldn't have waited so long". Maybe that has some merit NOW but clearly it can't be held against victims who in the past felt they would be crushed. Now that the door has been kicked down it SHOULD (and we should all hope) create a climate that is finally safe for anybody coming forward. Granted, one's claim would require investigation of some sort but all claims should be taken seriously no matter who makes it. This is what needs to happen. It's really revolutionary the #MeToo movement. I hope every person in power becomes/is scared shitless of either being exposed for what they DID or anything they dare contemplate this day forward. And here's the bottom line. What would be the gold standard of justice is if the shameless predator Trump is forced to FINALLY suffer consequences. He must be impeached or forced to resign. Until that happens the predators will still have hope. Trump must answer for his crimes. Isn't it obvious? The f***ing "president" (I don't consider him legitimate because he lost by 3 million votes) cannot be the one that got away!!

Oh okay you've convinced me.
Trump is the president of the USA, yet in the UK there are headlines every single day slagging the man off. Bush was mass murdering people daily and there was never this insane level of press bullying. What does that say to you? To me it says the banks wanted Hillary. And who owns the press? The banks. In other words we're being bullshitted every single day.
