What do you think of "I Ex-Love You"

It's ok. It's not a really bad song but I don't think I would go out of my way to listen to it, it's a bit flat. Perhaps the studio version is better. Of the unheard Bonfire songs, this one intrigued me the most and unfortunately it isn't as interesting as I'd wanted it to be. Musically it reminds me of a throw away track from the Kill Uncle era.
It seems mediocre at best. I hate to say it but the more we hear of BOT the less excited I get. After hearing the recorded version of Rebels (one I like) ... I'm not holding out that the album versions will be better... I think these live versions are as good as it gets for BOT.

UPDATE: On further listen, I'll rate this one above Veronica. For a long time, we've been in an era where what would have just been OK b-sides and sometimes not even that are album tracks.

For me, I'm interpreting the 'eeuuuuhhh-hhheeeuuuhhhh' two ways:

1) The white noise mumbo jumbo sound coming from the person delivering the news (and how it is heard by the person receiving it) Essentially saying the person delivering it isn't interesting or worth listening to anymore (and probably hasn't been for a long time anyway)

2) A representation of the indifference felt by the recipient of the news (if the recipient is making the noise eeuuuuhhh-hhheeeuuuhhhh, it's as if to say how predictable..... and.... I've been here before you know!)

Either way, I find it quite amusing.

Open to other interpretations.

He is said to be in poor health and the vocal performance is accordingly mediocre. Again, he wraps his late lyrical achievements around a nice melody. The Smiths songs or even PHTCAL sounded a lot more sincere and cutting. A few overzealous people get wet pants, when he tries to sound like The Smiths. Other times, they say, they're glad he doesn't always use 80s and 90s jingle-jangle.
It's a nice song with a certain musical lightness and hopefully cleaner in the studio version. But please don't write, that BOT is already his best solo record. All the Smiths reminiscences are due to Klinghoffer, Watt and Smith expressing their admiration for Johnny, Andy, Mike and Morrissey ... accepted that.

It’s a pleasant tune, and a return to a familiar sound.
The lyrics don’t do much for me, but that holds for the bulk of songs I hear these days.
I hope we will have a chance to hear a better version. I had the impression that Miz was out of sync with the band at times (or the other way around as you wish) so maybe it will get better with time.

I was so exited for this song, because of the previous hinted certain Smiths sound and the possible message of it and I must say on first listen I am disappointed. The live version totally falls flat and sounds lacklustre somehow. Lyric-wise...oh boy. His newer lyrics often sound like a never finished prompt or idea, as if he always just thinks "etc., etc" and therefore repeats the same three lines stretched with some mumbling sounds. But I also think, that it wasn't a total coincidence that he debuted the song on J Marr's BDay, it's Morrissey after all.

And only after recent events. I wonder what anyone else makes of this?

I thought it may be influenced by the Gilbert O'Sullivan song "I Didn't Know What To Do". Anyone else pick up on that?

Covered live in 2014:

Do you mean musically or lyrically? I think it definitely hovers on similar emotional territory. Also I wonder who's within those 'cold stone walls', or is that metaphorical, hinting at individual boundaries, as in 'I am I and you are you'?

It's horrible, he should be embarrassed to be writing and singing such dreck.

I think Kill Uncle was far superior to what we've been hearing of the new album
