"The Decemberists’ Colin Meloy Is Fine With the Long Wait for the Group’s New Album, but Isn’t So Sure His Dream Is Still to Write With Morrissey"

Who do you dream of collaborating with at this point in your career?

I’ve always harbored a dream of writing a song for Morrissey, but I don’t know if that’s going to happen in my lifetime. For one thing, I don’t know how often he does that or how he would do that now. It would not [be great] culturally to work with him now for the damage that he’s done to his own reputation. And, maybe I shouldn’t want to, I think maybe he would be an unpleasant person to work with. So I’m of two minds about it.

Colin ensuring his dream never happens.

FWD.

Meloy and The Decemberists wanted to create their own genre of music, but ended up with clichéd, recycled lyrics and music that are insincere, bloated, tired, and ironically elitist. Vocally, Meloy has no talent and zero emotions. The band stands for nothing at all. Meaningless and boring.

That was the dickhead part of your comment that reminded us how some artists believe they are more important than the ones who originally inspired their art.

There was a Liverpool band called The Decemberists back in the 1980s that were influenced by Johnny Marr's guitar style. Notta lotta people know that!

I doubt Morrissey would be interested in collaborating, he tends to prefer songs to be melodic.
Then why is Jesse still in the band?
Colin doesn't make a murder pit out of his heart and expresses the inner turmoil, that many ex die-hards carry within them.

What a wet wipe. No one knows him from Adam. As if a true legend like Moz would be interested in this no mark even in the unlikely event he’d heard of him.

Can someone tell me what Morrissey said or did that has made him persona non grada?

Probably what was viewed as most egregious was his support for the political party For Britain (in 2018 I believe). I don't want to link to anything here but if you Google it you'll find plenty of coverage. Some claim (or choose to believe) that Morrissey wasn't familiar with all of the party's views and was just drawn in by their animal rights stance. Whatever the case he lost fans over it and it seems to be what started the "Morrissey is toxic" movement that still gets referenced to this day.

Sounds like a bit of a sad and slightly stupid sack of snake scour. This shite doesn't deserve to be on anyone's radar.

It's fair in that he was asked who he wanted to collaborate with at this point in his career. To me what makes his response weaselly is his equivocation. He's of "two minds" because as much as he thinks it might hurt his career now - he still wants to do it. It would be a lot more honest to say I no longer want to collaborate... or despite everything, I'd still jump at the chance.

It's a moot point anyway as Morrissey wouldn't collaborate with him already and especially not after this comment.

The black-rimmed specs and well-trimmed beard just scream 'middle-class woke wanker'.

And, apparently, his band's name is as unoriginal as their music. Figures.

The New Decembrists.
