Unbelievable.

A nice interview like that & the racists have managed to wheel out their racism.

And people who are apparently "anti-racist" are encouraging racist discourse just to be mean to a singer who is trying to get his life back on course after a sustained demonisation.

My thoughts exactly!

Interesting to hear that he’s put the onus on bonfire being directed by Capitol. Sounds like they are testing the waters with Rebels and perhaps waiting to the new year to launch Veronica as a single.

You mean:

SPIEGEL: So you're saying everyone should stay where they are?

Morrissey: (laughs loudly) No. But I think every country should preserve its identity. Millions of people died for the German identity. If you think they deserve respect, then you have to protect their country.

That's a very benevolent interpretation on your part.

However, I do not want to shed any more light on it. He has his topics. Packs them now a little more harmless, because he burned himself badly. Why Fiona Dodwell (?) came up with such harmless questions, only she knows. Still, Morrissey seems nervous, even though it's on safe ground after all.
Yeah, ouch that was definitely one of the worst parts of this interview. Never use German identity as an example in this context. NEVER. Haven't finished the whole new interview yet because of work but reading that it took a this direction again makes me sad 😞

He didn’t mention them, except when he did?

He explicitly recommended Douglas Murray.

Incidentally, I’m reading The Madness of Crowds at the moment. And I’m finding extensive overlap with thoughts and feelings formerly articulated by Morrissey.
He only gives about one interview a year these days. I love it that mentioning someone once and then not mentioning them again a year later = you don't agree with them any more and reject everything they have ever said or written!

That was a real foot in mouth moment when he talked about millions dying for German identity. I think we know what we he meant though - that a sense of national and cultural identity is not achieved easily and is valuable. Seeing Morocco fans singing their national anthem yesterday at the World Cup almost brought a tear to the eye. And seeing them beat Belgium 2 - 0 was even better. A sense of belonging is important. Without it we are just lonely consumers, frightened of our neighbours. And people purchase more when they are anxious and frightened...

Good value for a fifteen minute interview and he touches on his favoured topics; the crushing conformity of diversity, the dumbing down of culture, witch hunts and animal rights.

I would urge caution on the topic of the proliferation in vegan options though. As the human population grows the demand for animal products is only increasing.

It has not gone in that direction.

"can you tell me why you're so burdened by being so great" has really been a theme with him for a long time, but now it's the only think he talks about, or some version of it. I did see a Jonathon Ross which was fun and lively, that Moz seems to be gone now.

Why can't Morrissey be asked about his actual profession? Why does it always have to end in a general reckoning with the evil external influences?

What about Boz Boorer?
How do you deal with people leaving the band in general?
Who will be the producer of the next record?
How does the influence of California affect your lyrics and music?
Don't you think that your whole back catalog should be worked on properly?
Autobiography part II?
dont give up the day job.M is an employer, why would he discuss an ex employees decision to leave.
they might not even have a producer yet.
california influenced quarry but dont see much since then.
auto 2,cant see him doing that.

That was a nice and much welcomed interview. Yes Fiona did seem nervous, but well done to her for getting the opportunity to meet Morrissey and getting to ask those questions and share it with us. I can't believe the last interview was 2015! but there we go. Unfortunately, the art of interviewing celebrities is dead - reduced to getting a funny anecdote for a cheap laugh (think Ross, Norton, Cordon and every big American host). Gone are the days of Parkinson, Dick Cavett et al. It would be nice if Morrissey had a little chat with Jools Holland if ever gets the opportunity to promote the album on there.

Anyway, contrary to some photos out there he is looking great and ageing rather well. The mention of the bread shop must be a reference to:

Nervous? NERVOUS? The way she wields that brutal stiletto, one slashing question at a time? We would say she looked anything other than nervous. More like the deadly journo assassin she is, taking apart a national treasure with her acerbic wit, her rapier-like thrusts and her deadly put-downs. We're surprised he can still walk. Get well soon.

Despite all this, people will be for and against. People who love and hate him will have an opinion. I don’t get it, if you don’t like him don’t watch it, don‘t go on about it just ignore it and be happy. i find it interesting that people who would like rid of him continue to give him a platform and draw people too him. It’s like people who come here and read every article , everyday and obsess with their dislike, why bother.
I just don’t get it

Well, then you are just very satisfied to hear such "Morrissey by numbers" answers (etsablished somewhere in the wilderness between 2011-2017) and learn nothing about the musician and bandleader Morrissey. Like you, Fiona's Twitter followers are completely thrilled and congratulate her on this successful interview. Each to his own.
