AT last!

a well produced Morrissey track, it;s been years ( of refusal) since the last one

outstanding song

Do we expect a UK release for this anytime soon. It's on amazon.com but not amazon uk?
I do think it is available in the uk. iTunes has it to purchase and it streams to uk via spotify and youtube music. All (I think) would be blocked if it wasn't meant to be available.

Amazon UK will probably make it available soon

If it’s on Spotify uk does that mean capital are releasing in UK?

Not available to buy on Amazon UK.
Had to go to the EU for FLAC & 320 to share here.
The mess comes when we get to licencing & distribution - that's where all the companies pop up and it becomes a headache to discern the how, who etc of it all.

FWD.

Interesting that Domino is now listed on the UK YouTube credits. Could be a UK distributor?

The new Moz single is now available for purchase on ITunes.

Does everyone here live under a rock? Most artists release 1 - 5 "instant grat" songs online nowadays months before the full release of the album. They only exist as "singles" because of the way Spotify release them, but often if you have a better streaming service they get released as part of the upcoming album rather than separate single listings. The traditional single doesn't really exist anymore, maybe nobody told Morrissey that.

Curiously on Apple Music there is two releases of Rebels Without Applause.
One says © 2022 Morrissey, under exclusive license to UMG Recordings, Inc.
and the other just © 2022 Morrissey
Both seem identical apart from the UMG one is a higher quality "Apple Digital Master".

I think the discussions around the production are healthy and prove that when the music is available, the debates are analytical and, dare I say, enjoyable.

Morrrisey’s vocals are a privileged category, so it is no surprise that there is passionate reaction to how they are rendered here. The result here is different - augmented - by still unique. They are installed with a larger pop canvas here; I personally think that the mix is rich and spacious. Auto tone or whatever production wizardry is being employed is not the absolute enemy of the recorded voice. We know from live performances that Morrissey’s voice remains a powerful tool a for that reason I don’t have an inherent resistance to production decisions that guide his voice to different ends

Now is also perhaps the time to reflect on past opinions of Chiccarelli, who may well have had a skill for channelling the defiant vocals of a late career Morrissey. Watt’s handle will only become clearer in the full context of the album.

I’m no audiophile or instrumentalist, so I can speak authoritatively on the use of guitars on the track. My layman’s response is that they are being deployed as pleasant jangle pop stylings. Their behaviour was more typical in the live setting.

Overall, I like the song and I’m happy with the studio version. Catch that funky bass in the background, too!
The funky bass is thanks to Flea from Chili Peppers I think?

It also says warner records, I'm confused.
Domino and Warner are publishers so they represent the writers. So supposedly Capitol/UMG have his distribution rights whilst these two companies represent one/or some of the writers here to collect writing royalties.

Just downloaded from UK iTunes. On first impression, I will listen a few more times as I walk home from work and then probably never listen to it again.

Cover art is a bit shit. Anyone mentioned that yet?

The lyrics on iTunes look a bit badly punctuated. Not sure whether that means I’m veering towards this being an unofficial release but either way happy to have it. The production - I reckon - is meant to replicate the 70s punk of the subject matter

So glad something has been released even though it's not at all what was expected. It's all a bit of a shambles. Crazy how much is just being randomly landed on us when usually these things are meticulously planned out for good reason.

And it does him NO JUSTICE. I don't know what the hell they've done to his vox but the first time I listened about 25 minutes ago I was visibly flinching. He doesn't need any of the bs they appear to be using as production tools. His voice speaks for itself. I don't know whether to laugh or cry right now, lol.
I'm glad we finally got this for sure... but the scary thought is that the live versions might be the better versions of these songs. Too soon to say, but it's a thought now.

All this complaining...this is a charming popsong! Nothing wrong with his voice or the guitars. No autotune...for heaven sake, its a background voice. Im quite tired of these so called Morrissey-fans. So many just looking for bad things. I have been listening to him since 1983. This new song is better than most of his solorecordings. Catchy. Just relax and enjoy it.

Erm no, some of us are just realists and non sycophantic. You can be a fan and still criticise; the two are not mutually exclusive. The Spotify version is dire regardless of what you say.

I had the same thought about the production, but I'm really not sure.
