Morrissey Central "Release" - Bonfire release details (October 29, 2022)

As posted on Morrissey central

Capitol Records (Los Angeles) will release Morrissey’s ‘Bonfire of Teenagers’ in February 2023. The album will be released worldwide except for the United Kingdom, where there is no label deal. ‘Bonfire of Teenagers’ is produced by Grammy-producer Andrew Watt, and was recorded in Los Angeles. The musicians on the album are Jesse Tobias, Andrew Watt, Josh Klinghoffer (ex-Chili Peppers), and Chad Smith and Flea (both of the Chili Peppers). The album features Miley Cyrus and Iggy Pop on additional vocals. The eleven tracks are: I Am Veronica, Rebels Without Applause, Kerouac’s Crack, Ha Ha Harlem, I Live in Oblivion, Bonfire of Teenagers, My Funeral, Diana Dors, I Ex-love You, Sure Enough The Telephone Rings, Saint In a Stained Glass Window. Album art is by Liam Lynch. Capitol Records (Los Angeles) has also licensed the rights to re-release Morrissey’s albums ‘Southpaw Grammar’, ‘You Are The Quarry’, ‘Ringleader of the Tormentors’, ‘Years of Refusal’ and ‘World Peace is None of Your Business’, and these will be available in deluxe vinyl/LP formats. As with ‘Bonfire of Teenagers’, the albums will be issued worldwide except for the United Kingdom until a UK label steps in. Morrissey is managed by Maverick/Quest in Los Angeles.

Morrissey’s next concert is at the Toyota Arena, Ontario, California on November 11.

What on earth do the Red Hot Chilly Peppers have to do with the aesthetic of the Smiths or Moz? Seriously.
oh, I'm not so sure about that. Moz has always been a bit of a mix of the fey, jangly guitar Indie darlings world of The Smiths on the one hand, and the punk and post-punk dirty rock and roll world of bands like The New York Dolls on the other. Granted, RHCPs are a very watered down off-shoot of that gene pool of post-punk bands, but I don't think they are a million miles away from Moz's wider aesthetic. It's all just music in the end. At his age, I would imagine he's just happy to still be making music that people want to listen to, and that other artists want to work with him. Still curious about that yet to be released A$AP Rocky collaboration...still no definite release date.

Given the circumstances the world was in during the recording of this album...
Given Morrissey's location with regards to the studio at the time and potentially making use of people around him via Watt (see Chad Smith & Watt recording together video), perhaps this album is just the product of 'happenstance' rather than any slur on band members, Chilli Peppers conspiracy guff or similar?
FWD.

I think this makes the most sense. Its been so long since this album was recorded that its easy to forget how logistically difficult getting the regular group together may have been. Plus Morrissey was smart enough to not turn down an opportunity to work with someone with as much leverage as Watt has right now, so that likely brought extra time sensitivity to the whole situation.

I wonder what will happen after what Morrissey did tonight. Is there even a deal and if there is, can or will they drop him?

Self-sabotage runs in the family. Why announce a release date never officially confirmed? Like uncle, like nephew?

Let’s hope so. Sounds like Morrissey isn’t happy with the date but at least it is still in the hands of Capitol. They clearly haven’t dropped it.
