Hasn't helped his chart position much though.
Again, the singles charts is not something Morrissey (or Suede, or New Order, or Nick Cave, or James, or Bunnumen etc etc) is able to reach these days due to the way it is set up.

So I don't think anyone in their right mind would have expected it to.

Fair enough but what's you point with Spotify listens, with the exception of Suede, the other artists you list have the same (Bunnymen) or more monthly listens than Morrissey on Spotify.

No, true, generally they are in the same category of 'related artists' in Spotify.
Some have more or some have less (Suede) monthly listeners.

But the only way these days we can assess the popularity of a new song is by how many times it is has been listened to on Spotify. And Morrissey's new single, and indeed his more recent singles, are doing really well compared to the other artists' recent singles.
