“There is currently something happening, a finesse and ferocity coming from Morrissey and the band that is unparalleled to anything I’ve seen in my tenure as Morrissey’s guitarist for over 21 years. It’s an infectious excitement coming from him directly manifesting through the band and into the audience leaving everyone in a euphoric state,” says Jesse Tobias. “As much as he and the band have historically been put against the ropes, doubted, disregarded and judged harshly while others are given a free pass, Morrissey and the band will liberate and astound everyone with our forthcoming releases and shows … that's if you are open to music as a method for change and genuine excitement.”

That's not really what the statement says and clearly not what it means. I don't think he cares who is playing for him since he switches members so easily. There is nothing more to it. He even called the Smiths lawnmower parts. The bottom line is and remains that Carmen has to be replaced, she ruins every single song.
The recent four concerts in Las Vegas blew me away. That’s good enough proof for me that Carmen deserves to stay on. Sure there were mistakes. So what? It’s Morrissey I want to see and hear mainly, and he seemed extremely comfortable up on that stage July 26th and 27th, plus August 1st and 2nd, while being reliant on Carmen.

So, if I’m not astounded by the forthcoming release it means I’m closed minded and can’t be excited by any music?

This isn’t AI, it’s surely Konstantin Raudive again.

I made the decision to not get tickets. I think that Morrissey is still capable of giving a good performance, but I can just as easily watch the youtube videos of the beleaguered renderings of these songs by the band after the fact. But I am from the Live in Dallas days of Boz and Alain, Gary and Spencer. A band that was far from perfect, but who made up for it in energy. So, my take on it is sort of Zen. I got to see the best of it back then; it's a little greedy of me to expect it would always be that way. Instead of being there in person and willing myself to enjoy the show for confirmation bias reasons (and to convince myself that I didn't just waste a bunch of money), I'm just not going. I wish that Morrissey would recruit a better band, but I think for a lot of reasons, he's not able to.

“As much as he and the band have historically been put against the ropes, doubted, disregarded and judged harshly while others are given a free pass"

That's because Moz's band of anonymous Sleeperblokes who change every few days are fcuking crap, obseqious, Yes-Men.

It hurts to say it, but ultimately nobody goes to the shows to listen to the band, they just want to hear Morrissey sing. The original 'Lads' were objectively awful on the 'Kill Uncle' tour, but nobody really cared.

Sorry, I have to disagree here, they were fabulous on Kill Uncle, completely puts this current band to shame

People with good taste in music beyond just one artist. Most people here, I should think.

Nah. There’s only me. :p

Indeed! As pointed out by Johnny Marr in Set the Boy Free.
They weren't M's words in court, as he clarified in a 2002 radio interview with Dave Fanning but note that he doesn't take the opportunity to dispute the notion itself: "but I'm not saying I disagree with it".

Although I do think his tribute to Andy Rourke when he died shows that he values him as a musician. Joyce, I'm not so sure, but obviously his resentment at the court case had something to do with that.

Yes, that seems to be so, but Andy himself said that he would have sued the same as Mike if he could have: 'I was made to settle, basically. When we split up, all the assets were frozen, so I didn't get paid for two years. I was on my arse, about to lose my house and I could either get paid and agree to this 10 per cent shit or go the same route as Mike. It's taken him 10 years, by which time I'd have lost my house and be selling The Big Issue, so I didn't really have a choice'. (MOJO interview 2004)

I want you to understand what I think and feel. Morrissey canceled twice in my country Argentina, he has the right to do so because if he got sick the fault is not his or anyone else's. What bothers me is his coldness, his lack of empathy in not saying anything about it, I'm not saying that he apologizes, or that he gives us detailed explanations of his cancellations, I just ask for some kind words from his fans. M does not believe that behind the money of a ticket there is emotion, feeling and a lot of desire to hear his voice and that the issue does not go through the money. My claim is more emotional. He never said anything, he didn't take anything into account, then he complains because they mistreat him and they don't love him. It's a self-centered attitude that I don't like at all.
I want you to understand once and for all, I'm a true fan, no one pays me to write here, I have no interests, I'm only interested in a singer. It hurt because I thought the man was a better person. He cannot think that there are people who can value him beyond the fact of being an artist. If he returned to my country I would go and take the risk. Mine is not a matter of money, for M it is, or at least it does not show it and that disappoints. We are all human and no one is saved alone. Sometimes reading a few words can relieve many and he is included. The issue goes deeper than it seems to some

BONFIRE as the pre-sale password? Is that supposed to be ironic or a joke. Who tours to promote an album, I'm sorry TWO albums, that have not been nor are likely soon be released?
The track's become sadly more relevant, with the Southport stabbings and foiled concert attacks in Austria

Louse Duffy of RTE Radio 1 lunchtime radio yesterday read from Jesse Tobias' statement after playing This Charming Man, 51 minutes in, but also adds a few surprising if complimentary inaccuracies about the touring status of Morrissey's band, which she calls The Smiths, as if correcting for recent media omissions elsewhere! - https://www.rte.ie/radio/radio1/the...1463846-louise-duffy-wednesday-7-august-2024/

Hysterical! Bless Louise she's managed to get everything wrong but it is nice to hear it all delivered upbeat. Good to hear the Smiths are still going. A glimpse of the alternative universe that's out there somewhere.
