I get your point but the problem wasn't so much the sound but the technical skill (or lack of). He actually could not play the notes.
I agree 100%, and should have made that clearer. He must have a picture of Moz with a hamburger in a safe deposit box or something.

Regards,
FWD.

Only one man could write a song about pigeons, watch and learn Steve.

Yes Johnny have to agree lines like "In sheets for which I paid I am now laid " and "Pillows like pillars" far from his best.

Benny-the-British-Butcher :greatbritain::knife:

im a huge fan of john, lots of radio stuff on youtube.

Jacket to conceal his paunch from view, appropriating a famous image to try to elevate his own, singing a song he did not write, the lacklustre band, on a comedians show. I can't agree with you.
shut up fattie, youv got a cheek talking about anybodies paunch.

Jesse's guitar is quite clearly out of tune here, but I can't quite work out if it's a mistake or it's deliberately been detuned by guitar pedal effects as some kind of bizarre stylistic choice. Does it usually sound this bad?

Just listen to that opening riff from around 15 to 25 seconds on this video. The tone is ghastly - harsh, grating - the guitar sounds out of tune, and his playing is sloppy as hell. I know Morrissey likes him as a person, but can't he find a professional guitarist to do these things?

He is out of tune, but his fingers are also stumbling over the riff. He is missing out notes to simplify it but he is still getting it wrong. And he seems to be using a distortion effect over it, to add to the horror.

Embarrassing revelation time: in the late 90s I played in a crap covers band at university and 'Back on the Chain Gang' was in our repertoire. I was the only guitarist and I had to play both lead and chords and even me, a sad amateur guitarist, made a better fist of it than this supposed 'professional' guitar player.

It certainly makes things interesting when the video is unavailable. Brings back the old days.

Ok so I don't usually find James Corden funny but that was a nice little witty back and forth and he played it just right, reminiscent of the way Jonathan Ross used to interact with Moz, it made me chuckle. The song itself was nice and jaunty, but not a particularly original rendition of a classic, I'm still liking it a lot. Would've been great if they had got Chrissie Hynde to do backing vocals, kinda like Moz wailing in the background on Sandie Shaw's version of 'Jeane.' As this song is the single for the deluxe version of Low in High School I would have preferred Blue Dreamers Eyes as a single. that song is so beautiful and stands up to anything in previous era's of his work IMHO.

Some classic Jessie Tobias guitar playing there. But not in a good way.
I'm not generally a Jesse beater, like some, but I can't decide if his guitar needs tuning or that was just dreadful playing.

Me too, I don't slag him off, I always thought that although he probably isn't as good a guitarist as Alain, he is more than competent and the sound he produces he produces at Morrissey's request. However, the riff here is poor, notes missed out, intentional or not, it weakens the impact of the opening.

He really cannot play that riff, it's terrible. I thought it sounded a bit laboured on the recording, but live he's really exposed, and it's not good. He's even playing a simplified version with fewer notes and he still can't manage it. Surely to God Moz can hear this? So annoying as his voice is sounding so good.

I thought the exact same thing Pepper. Between the hand clapping being picked up on the mic and the guitar playing, or whatever that was, the song itself was lost, but his voice is very strong. It left me wanting to hear a version with him singing with the real Pretenders...if that is is even possible. ;)

The original tweet was deleted because Sam (I blame everything stupid on Sam) tagged the RTE Late Late Show account.
Classic. The RTE numb nuts Late Late Show is in dire need of someone like Moz to liven it up. Irish TV is a joke on the tax payers who are forced to pay a bullshit TV licence to watch semi-literate soap opera and chat shows conducted by lobotomised bland hasbeens.
