Greg Davies (UK actor/comedian) on Suedehead (the song he wishes he'd written) and Morrissey's current 'beliefs' (April 21, 2023)

Don't know if this has done the rounds yet but it appeared in the NME fairly recently.

The song I wish I’d written

Morrissey – ‘Suedehead’
“When the song was released [in 1988], I was in a turbulent teenage relationship which I thought was life defining – of course it wasn’t – and I just couldn’t believe that line: ‘Why do you come here/When you know it makes things hard for me?’ I was trying to think of what to say to that girl and this man said had it for me. Morrissey’s known for a florid use of language and an Oscar Wildean turn of phrase, but his cleverness as a lyricist is how he can speak to you so eloquently in so few words. Obviously, he has terrible beliefs now.”

I'm getting to the stage where I can't be arsed to read this shite anymore. Why can't they just leave it at praising his lyricism and work or keep their traps shut entirely?

I’m normally measured and reasoned in my responses, but you’re the very example of a bad fan gone wrong / the jilted fangirl that I was alluding to earlier. You can’t stand Morrissey but you’ve posted 814 messages on Morrissey Solo.

Let me just repeat that:

You can’t stand Morrissey but you’ve posted 814 messages on Morrissey Solo.

A classic example of a bad actor and someone with a stalker fixation. No doubt there’s a box of tissues by your side, and not all of them are being used to dry your tears.
johnnie isnt the full shilling, hes throwing around thumbs downs like confetti at a wedding.

They're so spineless, it's just sad. What could even happen if they didn't add that little "disclaimer"? They wouldn't get cancelled. At most a reproach or a disapproving look. And they can't even take that.
Nothing more important than the approval of the herd...

Yeah, seems to me as well that was the case.
totally agree crissti, its to show that they are the absolute polar opposite to M and his politics, bunch of invertebrates the lot of them ie spineless.

privilege its because they cant help themselves, very few people get cancelled anymore because these people are now terrified incase they say anything that might boot them up the arse and end their careers.

Very true. Boy, am I glad that most people here have some sense and don't subscribe to the idiocy of cancel culture. People just don't have any substance to them anymore; it's pathetic really. It's also sad that the majority of the general population believe in that type of toxicity and get offended over pretty much anything.

Or they just go along with, because it’s what everyone else is doing.

Yep, invariably they do exactly that. I guess that's why when a contrarian comes along they are instantly noticeable.

I don't understand these people's mindsets because, to me, there is nothing wrong with forming your own distinct opinions; adhering to them regardless of the vitriol and ridicule that comes your way is not only admirable beyond anything these amorphous imbeciles could hope to be but actually rather sexy, too.

I find Morrissey's politics the opposite of boring.

Hello my dear! :D

It's only 'boring'/a non-issue for me because they are HIS politics. I'm not interested in anybody's politics besides my own.

What DOES interest me about Morrissey is NEW GOOD MUSIC to enjoy. :guitar:

It's unavoidable. Being interested in one's own politics by default means you are interested in other peoples' politics. One's own political stance depends on others' being adverse to one's own. There's no hard without soft. Spread the word ;)

I am proud that Morrissey stands by his convictions - yes. I am proud that he doesn't seem to be swayed by 'this and that', holding strong to his personal values. For these things, I like his 'politics', but it's more about him growing-up to be the person I thought he would be.

You should live off-the-grid! :p We care very little about somebody else's beliefs, unless they come knocking.

If you don't care about others' beliefs, their beliefs will come for yours and you won't even know it. Grid or no grid ;)

Here's something that would be mean to Moz if it wasn't satire on all the other players too

I've studied those learned gentleman a long time ago and still find their experiments absolutely fascinating to this day.

I had forgotten about Schelling, so reading the article was a nice reminder. Intriguing to see just how mercurial people can be!

The smug head on this sanctimonious prick Greg Davies saying he'd wished he'd written Suedehead. First of all you're not a singer/songwriter so we're already so low on the ladder we're barely crawling towards it. Second of all most singer/songwriters will never come close to writing a song as good as Suedehead. I wish I had discovered the theory of relativity but I'm no scientist.
