Another guest list discussion

This thread is hilarious and discusses two separate lists interchangeably
The guest list is a list of fans who Morrissey and other members of the band have chosen. They get walked in to every show to stand at the barrier before general doors open.

“The list” as shown in pictures is a list of fans who queue for hours/overnight to get to the front. They write their names in order of arrival and arrange with the venues and Morrissey’s crew to get in as early as possible as they’ve been there so long. This list will change every gig depending on who arrives and while there are regulars there are always plenty of new people included on this list. All you have to do to get on “the list” is show up in a timely manner and spend most of your time queuing.

The issue with seating has nothing to do with “the list”. Some venues are strict and will enforce people to stay in their rows prior to the start of the gig, other venues it’s a free for all.

Can somebody explain further what this list is? It seems like a really annoying problem and Moz's crew seems to be in on it?
There seems to be some confusion going by the initial post and people's replies. There are two separate things here: one is the guestlist - these are a group of about 10 fans who are given what Julia used to get back in the day - free entry without a ticket to any show anywhere in the world, no need to queue, and they are walked into the venue before anyone else is allowed in some they can go straight to the barrier. These are the people who are likely to be already standing in front of you if you bought a front row seat to a show. You can try peeling them off the barrier, but seeing as they are there at Morrissey's personal guests, so not be surprised if security/the crew intervene in their favour.

The photos in the initial post are something completely different, which is the list of people queuing outside. The only reason for this list is so that people who turn up in the morning can mingle around outside, and don't literally have to stand in an ordered line outside the venue for 12 hours. Anyone who turns up early enough will be offered a choice on this list, but they usually close it after about 40-50 people, as it gets impossible to police it after this. The idea is that those on this list stay in the vicinity of the venue for most of the time (quick breaks are allowed to checki in to hotels, take a dump, grab some food etc). It is open to abuse, but the idea is if people disappear too long they get removed from the list and lose their place. If you want to be on this list and get to the barrier, turn up early and queue. If you don't, quit bitching.

Lol, I didn't bitch, calm down, I was just curious because there seem to be different opinions about it therefore I asked. Thanks for the explanation then.

Agreed. I would want to be me.

I guess I was lucky then last year, these people seemed to be there but it was no problem to get to row 3 or so without any hassle, but it was a standing venue. Would be really pissed if I had front row seats and this would happen.
3 deep Boz side is absolutely the best place to be at a Morrissey gig, best chance of being surrounded by normals who are just there for the vibe and to get a good view, bouncing around to every tune, and a good enough distance from the psychos on the bar, who are there to be seen not to see. It's nothing new it's always been so.

No one. And I mean no one, has ever wanted to be you Hugh. Not now, now ever. You need to be kept away from anyone and anything civilised in society. 🥓
It was a fine hour when you were banished. 🤣

Agreed with the good spot. Was 3 deep Alain's side and it was a totally wonderful experience.

Is it true that on occasion, a fan can move from being on “the list” to being on the guest list as a result of attending many many shows? Or is that a rumor? Either way, it’s such a bizarre phenomenon. One front row gig can cost a fortune for many of us, so it’s hard to understand how one can pay for that (albeit amazing experience) over many shows per tour. If Sophie or Marianne, etc, ever sat in the balconies their obsessions would be a bit more relatable!

Marianne or Sophie couldn’t watch a show from the balconies. I think they feel it’s their right to be front row, and many of them feel that Moz wants them on the front row.
That Chris n Luke who appeared in 2020 are the same. But they’re all guilty of looking down their noses at everyone including many fans who’ve done many many gigs, just because they aren’t in the *front row or don’t go” clique.
Not saying all should get on but it’s reached unhealthy heights.
Bring back the days of 91-92 there was a sincere degree of politeness and decorum.
Not now.

Well, the guest list has grown over the years from just being Julia to being 10+ people, so that would appear to be the case. Which of the regulars gets the nod, and what they have to do to achieve it, and who they butter up on the crew/band/Moz to get there, God only knows. It doesn't just seem to be about number of shows, as some folk have appeared out of nowhere and suddenly made it on the guestlist a couple of years later, leapfrogging other regulars who have gone to way more shows. The murky politics of how it all works and who gets given the Golden Ticket is beyond me.

I do concur.
It previously never presented a problem but the new lot, Luke, Sophie, Chris, Marianne, Trina are a vicious bunch who see themselves as above anyone and continually snipe and look down their beaks at anyone who isn’t in their gang.
Come on Mozzer, blow it out the water dude x
i couldnt imagine thinking im better than anyone because im on the morrissey guest list. dudes a bit of a hasbeen.

Why are people hating on the list here? And why do people think the list look down their noses at others??

I think Mr Skinny best describes it. Who do they think they are.
Maybe they feel they are the elite amongst apostles. What is a little bit funny, as well as hating on the actual guest list attendees and looking down their noses at others, the majority hate on each other. Soph is forever being mocked behind her back but she calls the list crew her besties 🤣
And no one can escape an attack from Aussie Trina. She’s being buying crew members and Morrissey presents since her first gig in Vegas last year. She continues to make everything about herself.
Quite possibly some are real beautiful people away from Moz world. Nah, mayhe not.
It’s all set for a drama-filled fortnight.

I honestly will not miss this. In my 30 odd years gigging (Smiths/M) there were good times, but towards the end, I was gritting my teeth too much. I’ve met some lovely people, and endured far more I’ll be glad to leave behind.

With my experience and knowledge of this world, and the wider one we all inhabit, I’ve begun to notice something. Over the last year or so in the UK we’ve had 3 major public events surrounding the Monarchy. So I’ve caught on TV, or online, many a Vox Pox of them talking favourably about the Royals. In all the years, nothing has changed. You can see in their faces something they simply cannot hide, a deep down embarrassment of the realisation that they really should know better. Well, it’s the same watching Morrissey fans these days. Either talking about him, or about why they still support him. It’s exactly the same face As the lickspittling Royalists.
Yep. I’m out.

”Yet you’re still here?“. Yes. I’ll be honest. I still find Morrissey fascinating. Just not in a positive way.

There's been a lot of talk about "the list" so i thought i'd give the background on how it came about, given I was the one who came up with it.

I was (very much past tense) a hardcore Morrissey fan, did multiple gigs up to around 2015, long hours in queues.

I'd always got annoyed by queue jumping, and seeing younger fans who had queued for hours getting their place taken by older, bigger fans.

I went to a lot other gigs and had hears talk of Manics fans having a "list", and had spoken a few times with other Morrissey fans about whether we could do something similar.

The aim behind it was as follows

1. to give some sort of structure to the queue.
2. to allow people to go to the toilet etc.
3. to prevent queue jumping.

I think we started the list in early 2004 on the Quarry tour. it would normally be started by myself or another hardcore fan, who i believe is still on the scene.

We would explain to people the purpose of the list, and that it didnt mean this gave people carte blanche to f*** off to the pub all day. we would nornally cut the list off at around 25, as after that things got hard to "control."

It certainly started with good intentions, indeed i had a couple of minor squabbles with pals who turned up late and expected to waltz to the front of the queue. there was no elitism, the idea was that it didn't matter who you were, if you turned up first, you were in first.

it might well have been abused over the years, like a lot of things with good intentions, there can be unintended consequences. It certainly seemed to start a race of who could be earliest.

Anyway, that's how the list started.
