Perth Cancelled

Very disappointing to receive notification of cancellation 8hrs before the Perth Australia show, which has been sold out for months. "Unforeseen circumstances" hours before a gig is really not good enough, particularly with people travelling for the concert. Pissed off is one way to describe the situation.

Robert Smith says he walked out on the Pornography tour after a fight with Simon in Japan, flew home and his father gave him wrong and told him to go back as he had a responsibility to people who had spent money to see them, he went straight back to the airport and back to Japan
Robert Smiths work ethic and devotion to the fans is on a whole other level. He wants to give something back and does a lot for it (e.g. battling Ticketmaster or the 3 hour shows). He seems like a very great guy.

2 great shows from 2 great eras, though in live In Dallas you can see Alains finger getting shredded by his guitar string. That must have bloody hurt, claret all over his guitar
The "bloody finger" show was the Hammersmith Odeon, not Dallas.

It brings to mind a geographically-relevant anecdote in Dave Grohl's memoir. He/Foo Fighters were playing in Australia and had a one day gap between gigs. He was committed to taking his daughters to a father/daughter dance in L.A. between the shows. After the first gig, he immediately took a chartered jet from either Perth or Brisbane to Sydney to catch a Qantas flight to L.A. Flew back, had a handful of hours to spend with his family and get ready, went to the dance and left for the airport straightaway after. Flew back to Australia during which - plot twist! - he endured a case of food poisoning. Then straight to the second gig where the doctor gave him an IV bag of liquid and an anti-diarrheal and, lo and behold, hits the stage after crossing the International Dateline twice in less than 36 hours and plays another three hour show.

In comparison, there is absolutely no good excuse for not expanding on what the "unforeseen circumstances" were for a cancellation with hours to go. The staunchest segment of the fanbase is way too forgiving on this front after years of abusive, last-minute cancellation practices.

Sure it is disappointing - a huge let down to the fans, and no words from management - yet.
Perhaps there is some 'sensible' reason for this to happen again?

I'm sure no one enjoyed making that decision.
I hope all is well with the band, and to the fans, better luck next time! qué sera.

Management...? :lbf::lbf:

I stand corrected, thanks.
Think i have that somewhere, it was shown on Japanese tv back in 91. 👍

The reason is the quality of the work. The cancellations are just a known risk. Don't travel far to see him, don't book a hotel overnight, sure, but the worst to happen otherwise is a ticket refund.
My thoughts exactly.
Stretch only so far as show ticket guarantees.
Travelling only to see a Morrissey show is a risky gamble.
Even if Morrissey advises?.... shovels of salt will not be enough.

it's really impossible for even the hugest fans to defend the things he does.
certainly ridiculous how often shows are cancelled. made all the worse by the lack of sensible (or any) explanations.
Ha ha wait for Karen, Ketamine (whatever their names are now on this forum) and the half-wit 15-year old Spanish-speaking fan ja ja ja Mozi :). They can defend Morrissey no matter what.

He's got serious problems. Same old tired songs purposely selected so that people will never truly enjoy the show, the constant cancellations...why does anyone bother with this profoundly disturbed person? I think he gets off on disappointing people. Haven't been to a show in 17 years, it is completely pointless.
Interesting! Was 17 years ago also the moment when your personality took a complete nosedive for the worse? Or have you always been as equally innately appalling?

Top class act. 3 hour shows, excellent performance, Robert's voice is intact, and they play the hits without sounding bored.

On the other hand, Morrissey became a grumpy alkie has-been. 700% irrelevant.

We've reached the point where it's no more complicated than 'still drunk, slept in, can't be arsed' on a regular basis.

Kudos to his dad then, but a bit pathetic that it didn't occur to Fat Bob himself in the course of his 12-hour flight back to the UK (doubtless in 1st class).

It would have been a better story if his mum had been waiting for him when he got back to Tokyo, and said "On the other hand, Bob...."
he was young then and slim and at that time the drugs were messing with his head. They play amazing shows now two and a half hours or more, great setlists every night that change every show, The Cure are professional through and through, they never disappoint. I saw Queens of the Stone Age a couple of weeks ago, an amazing show with amazing musicians, the differences between Morrisseys band and Queens of the Stone Age is unreal, I never heard one bum note, Josh Homme is a great charismatic front man and all the other members shine, the atmosphere was unreal, Morrissey?, I mean what can you say?, he has created his own downfall, how can he not know he is destroying his legacy? He is very mistaken if he thinks it is going to be looked at romantically, some sort of Oscar Wilde. If Morrissey is really ill I wish him well, he should just stop touring and get well instead, he has given the world amazing music, lyrics and melodies and sound bites that's let's face it loads of personalities would of loved to have said, he is a one off and like he sang, you're gonna miss him when he's gone

You're hoping. It's a ridiculous position to be in. Good luck

Is it really? Why would one not have hope? If speaking of catching a Morrissey concert or in anything in life? With the reactions here, folks really have to put things in perspective.

I've been a fan for quite a while, maybe longer than many in this forum. Yeah it sucks and its wrong on many levels, but I know the risk when planning to attend multiple shows.

If I do show up in Sydney and Brisbane and Moz doesn't, then I will have a helluva time in these places because I am good like that. I will probably have a drink with some other fans caught in the mix, commiserating on yet another Moz cancellation!

I recall how bummed I was when he cancelled at the Vegas House of Blues show in October 1999. I was in line after hours when we were surrounded by Sherriff Deputies when they announced the cancellation (to avoid a negative crowd reaction.) There is a certain sadness whenever one is in Vegas with no cash, but this cancellation felt like the worst betrayal.

BLUF - to know Morrissey if to embrace cancellations. Just think wisely before investing one's time and commitment.

Here is a breakdown of his cancelation history by someone more obsessed!

People should look on the bright side: at least they won't loose time complaining about the setlist! 🙃
