That came from left field.
Chad states that Iggy Pop features on the Morrissey album also.
Playing the above video should go to the right point.

"The controversial Morrissey..." :)

It would have gone in the 'Strange...' thread, but if it is the first mention of any new material - it should be separate.

Marked as rumour until more details become available.

Regards,
FWD.

News of a new Morrissey album is always welcome. I really enjoyed the last few releases, so look forward to hearing this.

Not so sure about Chad on drums or this new producer, but intrigued by the prospect of a Moz/Iggy duet.

I’m a little nervous about this. Hope all is well in the band. I’m super curious/excited about the production but less so about the iggy pop collaboration. Love both men but it’s hard to imagine there voices going together on a record. Hope to be pleasantly surprised. I remember when dog came out there was a question thread or a question in the thread about whether he should go a bit more modern pop aka knockabout world. Makes me wonder how long this direction has been thought about

So Chad saying he did all the tracks on this new Morrissey album, does this means drums and as a producer? I don't know much about the chilli peppers.

Drums only, I would say. He's played on a lot of records that Watt has produced.

Since Watt is often credited as musician (guitar, bass, keyboards etc.) and composer in addition to producing, I wonder if he might have contributed something in those areas as well.

The whole affair creates the impression of bringing in the big guns to ensure a hit record. Or at least to charm a label into signing him, I guess (if that hasn't happened yet). Not a move I expected (or hoped for) but it makes sense for him.
They didn’t know Watt would be a Grammy winner when they picked him but he produced songs for 2 of the 5 most streamed albums of 2020 (Spotify).

I'm not familiar with most of his work, I think I've only heard the Miley Cyrus record and the Ozzy album he did, so I can't really imagine what to expect from this collaboration but I'm very relieved and excited (as well as a bit shocked) that Morrissey has been working on new material and that's the most important thing for now.

Okay, thanks for the info. Who is this Watt fellow? Is he the new producer? This is all so bizarre. I guess Matt Walker is busy with other projects?

Yes, Andrew Watt is the producer and apparently brought Chad on board as well. He's just won a Grammy and produced some highly commercially successful albums. (FWD posted links to his discography in the first comment on page 1).

Matt has definitely been busy with other projects and he's also based in Chicago, so it's possible that travel restrictions were still in place when they were recording.

Okay cool. Thanks for that. Unfortunately there was not much news in that clip but Chad seems like an interesting guy nonetheless. Never got into Peppers but I can see why people like them. I can't imagine what he'll bring to the sound but at least it's a curve ball.

I listened to about fifteen songs on this list. All of the music isn't exactly the same because it's a wide range of artists but there are definitely some stylistic similarities. I don't know how this is going to work out but at least the guy has a lot of hits so maybe Morrissey can sell some records.

Chad is a nice guy and a pretty good drummer. He's no Matt, but he's got tons of studio experience with a variety of musical directions. It will be fine.

I'm more concerned about the production, but we'll see.

My only hope for any new music would be that it gets a release.

Any thoughts about big hit albums seem fanciful at this stage considering all that has gone on.

I see a few things I recognize like blink 182’s nine single, the Lana deal Rey song the Ellie Goulding one which has been posted in the music thread a couple of times, Sam smith etc

All signs point to a new album. Even though I share @joe frady 's sentiments regarding RHCP, I welcome some new blood into the mix. And looking at Andrew Watt's resumé, I'm thinking the 20 year old me would be appalled by the staggering levels of commercialism. However, the me of today totally welcomes the idea of a commercial sound. Watt did a fantastic job on Miley Cyrus latest opus (her song with Billy Idol is outstanding). And Iggy making a guest appearence? Hallelujah. Iggy is one of my all time favorite artists and one of the most influential and revered alternative acts of all time. His gravelly barytone will gel perfectly with Morrissey's warm, soothing blanket of a voice.

So, all in all, I'm thrilled. Bring. It. On!

Now, cro-magnon, I haven’t dissed Moz. I love him too much. But by all means, provide a direct quote of me dissing Moz.

The promotion has been fine. The problem is that in publicly supporting For Britain, Marine le Pen, Tommy Robinson, Ann Waters, Nigel farage and the far-right, Morrissey has turned himself into the world's most toxic pop singer. Over half his fanbase has deserted him and all the radio stations that used to play his (new) songs have withdrawn their support. Blaming his downfalls on lack of record company promotion is ludicrous.

You with your crap.

He didn't support Le Pen. He didn't support Farage. He didn't support Tommy Robinson. He made passing comments on news stories. And he said he didn't believe the press smears about Anne Marie.

He said supportive things about Bernie Sanders, Jeremy Corbyn, Tony Benn, Clare Short, Hilary Clinton, Barak Obama & hated Margaret Thatcher, George Bush & Donald Trump.

The press - like you - are deliberately selective.

I have a bad feeling about this album. Post pandemic Moz may turn out to be very bitter. I've enjoyed the past two fwiw.

I thought the same regarding IANADOAC, turned out quite the opposite.
But a lot has happened since then.

He did claim le pen won a debate. I find it hard to see how he could think she won without somewhat thinking the view points she put forward as well as her character itself are somewhat agreeable and supportable. Sure you can take the viewpoint that he just thought that the other side was so terrible that someone like le pen could win but it feels like a stretch. I agree with the rest of what you’ve said. His choices aren’t tribal or binary and often he comments on stories to criticize current authority or just to make a point about the specific situation
