Morrissey Central "Mexico City" - dengue infection will take 2-3 weeks to clear; tour to resume in Florida (September 10, 2023)

Looks like he caught Dengue Fever - all shows cancelled until Florida on 7 October. All South American dates cancelled.

Morrissey’s arrival in Mexico City has resulted in a dengue infection. The virus will take 2-3 weeks to clear.

The tour is set to resume in Florida.

Morrissey has not ‘cancelled’ any shows, but the infection makes the immediate two weeks impossible.

Whatever is really going on with him (and at the end nobody knows but him) the distrust in his reasons and excuses for cancelling shows is well and long earned, because he's been caught lying in the past. Most of the fans just would be happy if there was a "I'm sorry" -post and timely information about cancellations/refunds/postponed shows etc. It's relatively easy to do that and everyone would have a better feeling. But he purposely does not do that and that's his decision. But fans have the right to be disappointed with that. Just imagine young Steven Morrissey in our place, he would be fuming and writing one hundred angry blog posts
There is a saying that goes: make yourself famous and go to sleep. He canceled many times and according to many without justification, so if this time it is justified, it is difficult for people to believe him ... unfortunately.
"Hazte fama y echate a dormir así dice la frase.....

Your lack of empathy for those people affected by his latest pathetic excuse is none existent. I’m sure you’re quite educated and know full well he’s not got the dengue, and there lies my point. He’s full of shit.
2013 when he cancelled on the Latino guys, he was on the sauce hours later with Gallagher N, laughing and taking the piss.
The fans deserve better.
@Surface

Am I their healing balm? Do you think your posts on here are going to solve their disappointment?
I’m sure they’re strong enough and intelligent enough to process and deal with this on their own. Many of us have been there.

It doesn’t matter what we think in regards to his this recent reason for canceling.

Yes, we know all the stories. You will never be able to say anything new.

Well, the fans deserve to receive the show in return for the ticket they paid for if that show happens. If this cancellation negatively colors their decision next time he comes around and they decide to not purchase a ticket? Then so be it. And that will be their message to Morrissey.

Why are you bringing me into a debate you're having with an anon?

Why are you bringing me into a debate you're having with an anon?

I thought you would be interested since you upvoted the anons post and I assumed agreed with their comment. Have you changed your mind?

Yes I agree that he's full of shit, he cancelled the Nottingham gig I had tickets for with no explanation or apology.

Well, good. I’m glad you made that clear.
One can never be sure what part of a comment another is upvoting.

Ok so ‘he’s full of shit’ this line of thinking will help many as it has obviously helped you in getting over this disappointment.

Out of interest, who has had gigs cancelled and how many? What’s the ratio of your gigs attended vs cancelled?

I’ve seen him 3 times now and he turned up and was great at all of them so hard to relate but I’ve heard some people say he has cancelled every time they’ve tried to see him so maybe I’d feel very differently if that was me.

3 times out of 30 ish

According to this site he's played 1259 concerts

and according to this site cancelled (not all his fault) 325

If you take out the ones that aren't his fault, approx 20% of his gigs don't happen for various reasons.

luckily, only one for me.

But I wouldn’t spend on hotel & traveling expenses without making sure that there was plenty to see and do if he does cancel.
People have to remember the artist they’re dealing with is different than others, and so, should make their decisions accordingly.

And to add …

I understand why people complain in general. But I don’t think the people that are affected directly by the cancellation will really benefit from posts calling him a liar or saying he’s full of shit or even debating if he does or doesn’t have this virus. That’s just keeping the wound open and festering. And there are people/anons on solo that want to do just that, keep the hate going.

The constant flus & fevers he's been getting since his collapse on stage in 2009. The sudden change in his appearance. Him not being taken to court for cancelling gigs. Journalists openly talking about his neurodivergence which gets harder to deal with as the person gets older. Him talking about his depression throughout his entire career...
But you can see how ill he is - whether its root cause is mental or physical. He aged drastically in his early 50s & that's a sign of something pretty serious.
He has been pretty open about it. He does use creative euphemisms rather than actually name the issue, but still...

He does need to wind the touring down - but I think that's part of his management chaos.
Yikes! That's unexpected; harsh judgements, from The would-be Greatest. Morrissey's been prominent in the public eye since his twenties when he was a skinny dark-haired blue-eyed boy. 'I apologise, I grow old', as the lyric goes. It's easy to track someone like that as their features alter to indicate age, but equally, as Morrissey does his rounds year after year, he must register familiar faces, note silver threads spreading, and 'see these lines'. Dorian Grey paused the ravages of the passage of time, but that's a work of fiction, isn't it? Reality check time, on that score. Put Morrissey in a line-up of 64-year-olds, and he's still the pick of the crop.

Irish Tribute band These Charming Men continue their tour, and given the regrettable absences in Mexico and other South American dates, it's interesting to read that they were "requested to appear in Morrissey’s absence at the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan 2004 to play to an audience of some 35,000 people."

"Him not being taken to court for cancelling gigs." What does that signify? Re. new artist management, you might have seen this tweet, unfortunately reversing the news Peter Katsis is back. May someone suitable step forward soon and ease the load.

Any sign of Carmen, btw? We still don't actually know who's sick. Nice to see the discretion and solidarity of band-mates. Speedy recovery wished to them laid low.

Incidentally, Miley Cyrus just managed to bag 5 MTV awards. But will they make her happy?

Autumn falls here, nights grow darker, and an air of melancholy descends. Another year of growing sputters out, the harvest's nearly in, and firewood piled up. Poor us ephemeral humans, and yet, despite inevitable trials, only plying more on ourselves. So, as the appetite for complaining is so voracious here at the moment, how about letting off steam on a few other concerning developments, such as

the state of the world's oceans

weapons fair in London

the end of the world, literally

Yes, Malarkey has hit a new low. Suggesting repeatedly that Moz must be really ill. No, really ill. And we all know what she is hinting at. Nudge, nudge. Wink, wink. Say no more. I bet she fantasises about nursing him too.

Malarkey may be overdoing the sick-calling, especially on this volatile forum, but sickness is at issue this time, whereas some stoop lower and imply he lies.

So unfortunate. Dear oh dear. :sleepy:

Who hasn't lied to get out of something? Granted, most of us have told lies that are 'smaller' in nature, but when you boil it all down, it's just a lie. Nothing more. Pulling a sickie. We've all done it. And according to Noel Gallagher, Moz has form. He's done it before. Or are you accusing Noel of lying?

31 gigs, 3 cancellations. I feel I’ve got off lightly.

And btw, he looks great. Could pass for 54.
Indeed.
The funny thing is he's now looking a lot better than Robert Smith and Paul Weller who are around his age. Back in the 1990s when they were all in their 30s, he probably looked the oldest. His hair is mysteriously a lot thicker and fuller than it was in his mid to late 30s!
