So maybe it wasn't just the "nostalgia" thing that was the problem, something had already gone awry.

did he or the venue cancel the show?

I just took it, that he made fun of himself...he would never say "I cancelled...". And if the venue would have cancelled, i think there would have been a new "CANCEL VULTURE!!!" outcry in Camp Morrissey. What I find curious is, that he was upset about the website labelling him under "nostalgia", but he played the 4 New York shows DESPITE the venue calling him "MOSSERAY" on their website and never correcting that.
