November 10 Morrissey Concert In Chicago Postponed

Due to a visa administration error, Morrissey’s lead guitarist is unable to perform in the US this week. Thursday’s sold out concert at the Congress Theatre in Chicago has been rescheduled for Saturday December 17, 2011. The issue is out of Morrissey’s hands but it will not affect Monday’s concert at the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio, nor will it affect the rest of the tour.

At last week's court hearing Judge Tugendhat ruled in favour of Morrissey and against the NME in the NME's effort to prevent Morrissey taking them to court. The NME also wanted the Court to order Morrissey to pay over one hundred thousand pounds for their legal fees thus far, which was also unsuccessful. At the Application hearing, the NME were represented by a large number of lawyers, together with ex-editor Conor McNicholas. The NME's current editor, Krissi Murison, and Guardian music "writer", Tim Jonze, also provided written statements in support of the NME against Morrissey.

Strangely, and supported by the evidence of McNicholas, Murison and Jonze, the NME's lawyers argued that it would be unreasonable to expect them to remember the events of 2007, yet they went on to stress that if the case went to trial, they would wish to cross-examine Morrissey on events...

From the magazine that Morrissey may very well send to the knackers' yard next summer comes...

...with a 'personal' introduction from Johnny Marr.
It's up-to-date enough to refer to the Stone Roses reunification but they forget to mention the recent litigation. Funny that.

Is there really anything left to be said?

p.s ~ In this weeks 'normal' 'NME' there is an interview with Johnny Marr in which he states that he was in e-mail contact about the 'Complete' project with all three ex-Smiffs, including Moz. I know, I know, it's shocking....Morrissey may actually have been a little parsimonious with la vérité

"The Queen Is 25 : The Smiths Tribute Album" - Cover Lovers

Twenty five years ago, The Smiths, arguably the greatest British band of the 1980s, released their masterpiece, The Queen Is Dead.

"Like the Sex Pistols' God Save the Queen, the Smiths' The Queen Is Dead was designed as a state-of-the-nation address. The parallels are many: explicit criticism of the monarchy as a pillar of the existing class system; the toughest hard rock as the most effective method of making your point; lyrics that are a blast of eloquent rage from the standpoint of an outsider – in each case a young man of Irish extraction.
When The Queen Is Dead was released in June 1986, Britain was nearing the end of a second term of Margaret Thatcher's Conservative government. There was surprisingly little dissidence expressed in popular culture, as the onset of CD software inaugurated a wave of retro marketing."

Posted on the Doll And The Kicks Facebook page on Oct. 25, 2011:

We sadly have to announce that after 6 incredible years we've decided to disband. We leave with our heads held high and are proud of everything that we achieved. A huge thank you goes out to everyone we worked with and who believed in us and our music. You all helped us have an experience which dreams are made of. We've travelled far and wide over the globe to play in front of so many people and for that we will be forever grateful for anyone who turned out to see us.

The decision we made wasn't taken lightly but with the prospect of being without a record label for a 7th year and therefor having another year of minimal touring and lack festivals has made us feel like we've taken DATK as far as we can.

We're all going to have other projects which we'll be putting our new found time & energy into. Stay tuned as you'll be first to hear...

BOOK DESCRIPTION

Second-generation Irish musicians have played a vital role in the history of popular music in England. This book explores the role of Irish ethnicity in the lives and work of these musicians, focusing on three high-profile projects: Kevin Rowland and Dexys Midnight Runners, Shane MacGowan and The Pogues, and Morrissey/Marr and The Smiths. The book locates these musicians in a hyphenated ‘Irish-Englishness’ marked by ‘in-betweenness’ and explores the different ways that they engaged with this in-betweenness through their creative work and their engagements with audiences, the media and the music...

This year the movie version of Shelagh Delaney's play 'A Taste of Honey' is 50 years old. The Liverpool LGBT arts festival Homotopia is holding a special screening of the film on Sunday 6 November.

A Taste of Honey Still Sweet Half a Century On

'Hard to believe, but this year Tony Richardson’s wide-eyed 1961 ‘neo-realist’ masterpiece A Taste of Honey, based on a play by Salford playwright prodigy Shelagh Delaney is half a century old.

Filmed on location in lyrical black and white when Manchester was still connected to its chimney-stacked ‘dark Satanic’ past, it tells the story of Jo, a gawky, dream-filled, pregnant, unmarried working class teenage girl thinking about life and thinking about death and neither one particularly appealing to her.'
