Excerpt:

"Morrissey has written to Jet2holidays urging the tour operator to drop its association with marine parks that continue to use captive orcas and dolphins for entertainment.

In a letter to the Jet2 chief executive, Steve Heapy, the former frontman of the Smiths said the mammals belong in the open ocean where they can find food and socialise, which they cannot do if they are in “a cramped, concrete tank”."

Good question. PETA admirably came to his defense on the sub-species comment, so hopefully it would be never.

I guess it depends on where PETA leadership goes. As it is, they’ll praise any celebrity who says anything in support of animals, even if it’s a meat-eater lamenting fur. If they disassociate from Morrissey over some of his unrelated bizarro views, I think they’ll lose credibility. At the same time, there has to be a line. They can’t promote Savitri Devi, even though her work on animal rights was so insightful.
Peta once run a campaign comparing treatment of animals in factory farming to the holocaust, I don't think they're too afraid of controversy. Doubt they or other animal rights groups are going to want to dissociate themselves from Moz. Agree about your comment on its leadership, but animal rights groups are very focused on animals and never seem too concerned about anything else.

Agree with him here.
I saw this news story about orcas attacking vessels and hoped they got meals out of them

Well, but sometimes these groups do go off-message. For example, PETA and Mercy For Animals have both made campaigns in support of Pride Month. As far as I'm concerned, that's a misappropriation of funds (speaking as someone who donates to these charities). It's very disappointing, not to mention a way to alienate people from the cause who may be concerned about animals but who aren't socially progressive. How far they intend to go with this remains to be seen, but Ingrid Newkirk is not going to live forever, and the next generation of leadership might have different priorities (as well as a different view of Morrissey).

Totally agree.

JET2HOLIDAYS DEFENDS MARINE PARKS POLICY AMID MORRISSEY ROW

"It is important to note that we are committed to only working with venues that agree to uphold the highest standards."

Brief article quoting a Jet2holidays statement without a source.

It's just a bit galling when he cares about other species in distress but not actual human beings.

🐬🐎🐳🐂 Hi Morrissey ! Agreed. Sea World San Diego should be made an animal preserve free of tourists and shows, with no more new aquatic friends caged.
Worse yet is the Del Mar race track, where numerous horses have died recently, every year ! These are young horses in the prime of life and fit to race. Yet, the case remains the same in both examples, animal abuse. BAD
T.B.F.D. Continued Success to you all and thanks for standing up for our friends.
Best Molly, Maggy, Daisy, Zack, Rocco, David Park Blvd S.D. Moz Crew 🙋
