I know. But, as far as I can see, many bands cancel and nothing is ever said about it. The song and dance made about my cancellations is usually from people who wouldn’t go to the concert in the first place.

sam:
But you will play the Canada dates?

M:
Yes.

sam:
Is your hand bad? Obviously it’s covered.

M:
The stitches are out now but if I had shaken anyone’s hand last week blood would have spurted. That’s not a nice greeting.

sam:
I don’t think anyone ever believes that you’re ill, or that you fell, or whatever.

M:
I know. Generally colds and flu are passed on to me, and there’s nothing you can do when your voice is your instrument. I go to abnormal lengths to avoid colds."

His words on white privilege was like a tribute to my dad cause I asked dad a few years ago if he ever felt he had any benefits from being a white man and he went "did I f***".

He worked hard all his working life and white privilege might be that a boutique in Paris lets you the white person in but refuse to open the door for Oprah and that actually happened though I think she fabricated the story and we see that a lot from non whites who for some reason are hard to trust.

Maybe they should behave first and then see what happens cause privileges are earned from behaving well and is not a God given right.

Morrissey lives in a bubble and his nephew seems intent on running interference with reality. The interview is full of logical inconsistencies. It isn't even a matter of agreeing with him or not. He doesn't seem to agree with himself.

White and black are not, biologically, 'races'. Biologically there is only one race - home sapiens - and decreeing that people belong to 'another' race because of their skin colour is racist.

Also, cultural identity has constantly evolved throughout human history, and will continue to do so, so there is always going to be an 'other'. Fear of the 'other' is not necessarily irrational, it's a simple animal territorial instinct, and beyond all the niceties, territory is always going to be an issue between different cultures. The idea therefore that fear of the other is a mentality that will wholly disappear in a few generations from now is ludicrous.

It's a nice interview actually.
It is still a bit weird to release an Uncle/Nephew interview and I assume they know each other very well, so S.E.R. probably knew the answers to all the questions without even having to ask... so it's a bit like a parody, even if the interview is interesting.
(It still sounds a bit like Rifke interviewing herself to me, but both interviews were fine... by far better than my interview to Viva!).

A bit like believing that you have a 23 cm dick when Argentina average isn't even 15 cm.

I believe that if non-white people want to feel there’s intrinsic privilege in being white, as a white guy I’m not really gonna argue it. Everyone’s experience are different. And I know only growing up around a majority of other white people with similar life experiences. But as I mentioned in another reply, I don’t think the phrasing is particular conducive - instantly makes people like Moz think ‘well that can’t be me, I was brought up on a council estate and my parents didn’t have two ha’pnies to rub together’

I agree that the comments weren't particularly productive towards the greater discussion, yes. Yet, there's something to be said about it all.
Not denying that white privilege is prevalent in certain circumstances- for example, the one Whizz Kid described. However, I don't think this should be assumed of every white person. In doing so, one's effectively looking at someone's skin color and making snap judgments about them. I wouldn't call it racism, but it's definitely a generalization- one that happens to be erroneous in M's case.
I'm sure you've heard the saying: "The Irish are the blacks of Europe". What's that? Ethnic privilege? I'm sure many an Irish kid has been through the exact situation Whizz kid described... so why pretend that every white person has some kind of advantage over every non-white person?

The straight white cis-gendered male has become a two-dimensional bogeyman, I feel.
