The album will have twelve tracks and was recorded by the same producer of The Strokes and U2.

Singer-songwriter Morrissey, a former lead singer of the English band The Smiths , first laid out details of their new album, which will be released in March 2019.

In an interview with Folha , the British said that the album will be called "California Son" and will bring twelve songs written by a collection of American composers.

The album was produced by Joe Chicarelli - who has worked with names like The Strokes, U2 and Elton John - and recorded at the famous Sunset Sound studio in Los Angeles. "Joe brought in a lot of new musicians and we experimented with a lot of sounds. Everything went fantastically well and we are proud, "said the singer.
The album will feature the participation of singer Laura Pergolizzi, better known as LP, in two tracks. She has written songs for Rihanna and Christina Aguilera.

In April of this year, Morrissey announced on its website that it had completed recordings of a new single, also at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles.

It's "Back on the Chain Gang," written by Chrissie Hynde and recorded by The Pretenders in 1982. The song, which has been played live by Morrissey since 2017, is likely to be part of the new album.

Why, he is entitled to his opinion as is everyone else on here
Sheer abuse is being passed as opinion now? One might feel that that is taking that whole freedom of speech thing a bit far. And it’s always the most loudmouthed brutes who cherish it the most. That’s interesting.

This is a forum. We are meant to have different opinions. But being abusive is not the right way to go. It’s not totalitarian to toughen up the rule book a teeny tiny bit.

A missed opportunity, methinks. Just like Morrissey getting airplay and then using to parrot other people's songs. With him soon turning sixty and having a major label deal for the time being, I would prefer him using the time left to record and promote his own songs. Because let's face it, there can't be that many albums to come. Sure, I'll buy this and probably listen to more than I expect, but I'm not particularly interested in California Son.

Which one though, one of the small venues which has sold out or the larger one that hasn’t?
do you look at seating plans as a hobby, its the weekend get out and about.

You're right, but do you have any further thought on what the title might refer to at this point? His album titles haven't been random choices so far.
Mmmm... I think at least a couple of them have. Depends what you mean by random, I suppose. Many of them either refer covertly to gayness or reference what's going on in his life at the time. So on that basis, I'm thinking - particularly after the Castlefield humiliation and the UK press savaging - he's cutting ties and reaffirming himself as the (adopted) son of LA. It's a sort of two fingers to grey, dreary little Blighty who didn't appreciate his specialness. Aztec, presumably, is wetting himself.

Another bad pun.

He's in his Vegas residency phase, but instead of Vegas, It's Los Angeles.

first time in quite some time that I'm really excited for a new moz release. I think around YOR he mentioend in a German interview that he'd like to do a cover album one day, and I was excited for such a project ever since. now it's finalyl here! wasn't much of a fan of his post-YOR output, so seeing him doing something completely different from his last really makes me wet! :D

So maybe he has to suck up any validation where he can get it these days. So is next album going to be Breitbart brother or Storm front Sister!
in my eyes "morrissey day" is definitely more than just "any validation", so why shouldnt he express his gratitude and attachment for it? i can't see any political or ideological orientation in a title like "california son", so i doubt that your suggestions for future album titles like "breitbart brother" and "storm front sister" will be seriously taken into consideration. i hope you are not disappointed. ;)

Producer of The Strokes and U2 + new musicians = HOPE!

Well, I believe it’s the same producer as the last 2 platters. So if ya liked them, then you shall not be disappointed.

Joe C does a good job, but something more adventurous would have been nice for a change.

Having said that. I am very excited about this record.

Why would Morrissey be interested in Breitbart or Stormfront?

Stormfront is a far-right Nazi site and Breitbart is an obvious Jewish anti-Muslim propaganda site, therefore not that dissimilar.

What a lot of so-called ex-Morrissey fans should understand is that he comes from a working class background that is anti-establishment. He slagged off Thatcher in the 80s and continues to slag off the establishment to this day.

Some people can only see things as left or right. Outside of this they become confused. These types of people (most likely middle class and therefore blinkered) have never understood Moz. They think he was once left wing then suddenly veered to the right.

But it doesn't work like that. He is anti-establishment - it's the establishment that try to fool us by constantly changing their colours and values. And it's the middle class sheep who bleat along with the changes.

The only missed opportunity
I can see here is that he’s calling it California Son and not Ketamine Sun, in tribute to his favorite member here on solo.

;)

you are certainly right, dear ketamine sun. may i add though that also a lantern emanates life-sustaining light which is a pleasure for the eye and soul to behold. humbly but steadily. california lanterns! what a missed opportunity indeed for offering his tribute of praise to his second-most fav member on solo! :isakayalantern::jackolantern::sunrise::sunglasses:

is it too much of a coincidence that M mentioned elvis HIS LATEST FLAME a few months ago, just listened to it and would certainly suit his voice, would love him to do BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATERS but the version elvis does which is fantastic and for me is the ultimate version.
