My point was that the inclusion of scantily clad women may or may not have been Morrissey's idea, and the reasoning for this imagery can only be genuinely explained by Morrissey and Sam. It could have been a condemnation of the practice or just an easy way to get attention. Without clarification, no one can be sure. I do agree with you that there have always been higher expectations for Morrissey, and admittedly this does not meet those standards. In fact, I've always wondered why he never seized the opportunity to elevate music videos by incorporating the influences of classic film, literature, and music that were an integral component in his lyrics. The Smiths initially refused to do them, which seems like such a missed opportunity.

As for the use of beautiful half-naked figures to promote his music, Morrissey has used male and female imagery equally, including the use of his own flesh. Concerning the issue of female exploitation in this particular video, I would be outraged if I found out that these women were part of a sex- slave trafficking ring; otherwise, they presumably had the choice to participate in this production or not, so they were in no way unwilling victims. Attractive men are being used increasingly more often to market products, so right or wrong, we are closing the gap in this area. Personally, I am more offended by stupidity in marketing and advertising than I am by nudity.

While the reaction to this video has been mostly negative, I highly doubt that it will affect ticket sales on Friday. You previously stated that the devotion to Morrissey is based on some nostalgic hold; but, I completely disagree. That may be true for some, but every time I attend a concert, I meet people, young and old, who have recently discovered him and who are totally enamoured with his work. If his fan base was completely disillusioned as you claim, he would simply fade away; yet, so many people continue to express interest in him. No matter how many times he stumbles, and god knows he stumbles a lot, people seem to find enough value in his music to overlook the low points.

Obviously, you and I will never agree on most issues, so I'm not in anyway expecting to change your mind; I'm just expressing my opinion. I also wanted to thank you for sharing the ChainSmokers video earlier in the thread. It's both funny and sadly realistic.

Thank you for sharing your further thoughts. There is much I agree with here. Yes, unless and until Morrissey explains this bizarre video all we can do is have fun with it. I'm glad you enjoyed The Chainsmokers. As well as referencing 'Mean Girls', it's an update on an old Frank Zappa track made with his daughter, Moon Unit, called 'Valley Girls' which you might also enjoy.

The time and effort BummieBoil gives to Moz is very telling, he clearly has a major obsession with everything about the man. The video will feature semi-naked, well toned young men with post-feminist messages written on them in lipstick and features Bummie singing in a different room (because he can't be trusted to be in the same one with all that flesh on show). It's irrelevant what somebody looks like. CG is plus-size and wants to have sex with Morrissey, by the evidence of this video she has no chance as Morrissey appears to have soft-porn fantasies about kissy-kissy with lipstick lingerie models for hire.

I couldn't care less how Morrissey self-presents so long as it's either natty or amusing. At some stage he'll have to use hats as a prop now the quiff is collapsing. I'm a trained court stenographer. It takes me as long to type as it does to think about what to type. It's all off-the-cuff, on the fly. This 'me' isn't really 'me', it's mostly my Secretary, Sharon's persona. Any other versions of 'me' on the WWW's aren't 'me' either, just more Autofiction, especially the ones that uses various real names, none of which are 'me', especially the Social Media nonsense.

My Secretary's a huge Morrissey fan but she's also working with mental health issues so is no longer employed by me. This entire blast at this site is an homage to her and a thank you for times past. Sharon, if you're reading this, I still love you and hope you can return to your duties at some stage in the future. I don't fancy Morrissey and never have done. He's not my type, though if my retirement portfolio goes up in smoke again like 2008 AND he paid me enough AND I popped a blue pill I could do the old 'gay for pay' thing one more time. 4thelulz. So, nuclear explosion in NYC, Madge adjusts her make-up, does some Celebrity Ballroom Dancing practice with a tall dark stranger /topical American Sniper and then adopts another kid from the rubble. It's crazed, silly and also a beautiful song. Much more fun than KMAL, but not just because of the budget. She's actually aware that it's all coming crashing down. She has a house in Cornwall, you know. I won't tell you where because it's still a secret, but she's a really nice person, by all accounts. You are right. The november-video is defenitely the very best, because of it´s incredible sex-appeal. And Ouija board. When the table is rumbling, I also fall from the chair.
But we are´nt really spoiled with the videos. The lyrics would give so much more for a story to tell, or at leat nice-to-watch.
... I´m still very sad, about the bitter disappointment on monday...

those are the videos i find alright. my love life tomorrow etc which is more of just simple concepts. irish blood english heart was good but still mostly a performance video. hes never really made good ones and has said many times in the past that he dislike them so its not hard to imagine that he doesnt put much into them

Absolutely because this video and the ogling of David Beckham and body objectification does not exist in a vacuum and in order for us to properly critically examine both these scenarios we must take into account deeply ingrained, institutional ideology with long and violent histories of oppression and inequality.
