Please re-read the section about my idea for a cat video and maybe you will realize that something soared over your head. Obviously, it was terribly executed, and whether it was meant to have a profound concept or it was just a toungue in cheek attempt to address the question of how to market Morrissey to a wider audience (tits anyone?) is no longer the point. The fascinating outcome of this video is that so many people are invested in analyzing it, thirty pages of comments worth and counting. How many other artists who have been around for decades still command this much attention? Morrissey is part of a very fickle industry where this year's favorite is frequently gone and completely forgotten in a few years, so the continued concern about every aspect of his career, from video execution to shirt selection, speaks volumes about the devotion that his fans continue to have for him.

Most of the comments are scathingly negative. Even his devoted fans have got their sick bags out over this one. You seem to be claiming that Morrissey is entitled to use female 'tits' to market himself to the world and that is either a 'profound concept' or 'tongue in cheek'. We could say the same about every single MTV where women have been used as ornaments for male egos.

Lots of artists have been around for decades longer than Morrissey and do not resort to crass sexism to revitalise interest in their work. There has been very little interest in this nonsensical video outside of this forum, even the feminists at The Guardian have failed to take the bait. Do not confuse multiple pages of people mocking an ageing male sexist for 'devotion'. It is largely well-deserved ridicule.

Many people invested an enormous trust and confidence in Morrissey that he would be a standard-bearer for progressive ideas, including the idea that women's 'tits' are irrlevant to publicising a new single or American tour. If he wants to scrawl over his ageing man-boobs, that's fine. Or perhaps not... It's been a hilarious thread. It's no surprise to me that his more desperate fans resort to such absurd justifications, giving him the right to use female 'tits' but it is especially surprising when such justifications and equivocations emerge from his female fans. The video is grossly sexist. He is trolling feminism for the lulz but must be pissed off as he isn't getting the response he hoped for. He is being dismissed as a troll. Again.

Nonsense. The norm in society is heterosexuality so it's taken as assumed unless somebody announces otherwise. There is no reason for anybody to come out as straight as everyone assumes they are unless their gender presentation suggests otherwise. Morrissey has built a career on appropriating gender-questioning and gender-queer imagery which was often sourced from overtly gay canons of literature, film and music. He has now firmly denied he is homosexual so it is logical both to assume heterosexuality. And to question the ethics of his appropriation of queer and feminist gender-questioning imagery now that he has released a video where women are hired to act out a trite, cliched soft-porn scenario which most viewers will assume reflects the fantasies of the man singing the song.

I am really not sure why you cling to the hope that he is not heterosexual when he has so clearly denied not only homosexuality but bisexuality. If he is not truthfully able to declare himself as homosexual then he cannot be bisexual either. That leaves women as the only plausible humans subject/objects of his 'humasexuality'.

Please note he says 'unfortunately' when denying assumptions of homosexuality. There is no homophobia or disdain, he is merely clarifying the fact that he is not attracted to men, but is 'humasexual'. If you wish to suggest he is somehow able to deny homosexuality whilst still plausibly using LGBTQI imagery to appear 'transgressive' or 'radical' then you need to explain how and why such appropriation is anything other than heterosexist culture tourism.

Previously I would have classed him as an asexual str8 ally to genderqueer and gay culture but his grossly insensitive use of standard heterosexist cliches in this video make such a proposition untenable. No doubt he will explain his rationale behind this oafish video.

Of course I'm having fun. Any time I stop having fun I take a break. I'm not ranting. These are carefully constructed arguments befitting an artist of Morrissey's intellectual standing! It amazes me that the whole world isn't entirely focussed on Morrissey's late-in-life-Laddism. However, I'm delighted for him if he's finally decided he's heterosexual at the grand old age of 55 and I look forward to the sight of bare-breasted women at his shows with lipstick lyrics to KMAL on their tits as they let rip in the pit. The prospect is bound to sell loads of tickets to Joe Six Pack once he sees the video.
