I still ask myself today, why I appreciate Morrissey's studio sessions from 1993 and 1994 so much? Lillywhite did a lot with his voice. From clarity to total distortion (Whatever happens, I love you, Lifeguard Sleeping) and it all blended together with the music into a great anachronisticly romantic piece, that he never delivered in the same way before or since. Some of the lyrics are promises and allusions. Somewhere, perhaps, a secret code between him and Jake, who triggered him enormously. Have-A-Go-Merchant could also have something to do with the troublemaker's “flaunted” coarseness. Fascinating stuff.
