Morrissey's very beloved mother - and best friend, Elizabeth Dwyer, has passed away.

A service will be held in Dublin where Elizabeth was born.

All are welcome.

You are not alone in being alone!xxx I am by your side.

The comment 'all are welcome' could be problematic. In Ireland, since June 29th, "up to 50 people can attend an indoor funeral service and up to 200 can attend an outdoor service. Fewer people may be allowed to attend if the ceremony is in a small, enclosed space. Individual churches or funeral venues may have their own restrictions."
I'd like to go but probably wouldn't be allowed in.

Death is always a shock. No matter how old or how ill a person has been, down to the last minute we do not expect them to leave. The loss of the one person who has known us the longest, since before we were born, it is surreal.
Sincere condolences to the Dwyer and Morrissey families.
I keep a candle lit for Elizabeth Dwyer and her son Steven.
Ar dheis De go raibh a h-anam dilis.

Thoughts, prayers and heartfelt sympathy

The quote is taken from Wilde's Requiescat, which Morrissey is seen chewing on here, ca. 1985.
Oscar wrote it for his sister Isola, who died at the age of 9.

RushToDangerRequiescat.jpeg

Tread lightly, she is near
Under the snow,
Speak gently, she can hear
The daisies grow.

All her bright golden hair
Tarnished with rust,
She that was young and fair
Fallen to dust.

Lily-like, white as snow,
She hardly knew
She was a woman, so
Sweetly she grew.

Coffin-board, heavy stone,
Lie on her breast;
I vex my heart alone,
She is at rest.

Peace, peace; she cannot hear
Lyre or sonnet;
All my life's buried here,
Heap earth upon it

It was of course Elizabeth who introduced him to Oscar's work.

who the hell didnt already know that???

oscar wilde was very close to his mother too. she died while he was in prison, cant imagine how hard that must have been on him. poor oscar.

So sorry, so sad.
Be thankful for the last weeks/ months you could spend with her. Corona came at the right time somehow.

Oh no. Oh Morrissey, my God. The worst news.
I hope he has good people around him. Now is the time to mend bridges and for pettiness to fall away. Chrissie, Johnny, Linder, 'The Lads', whoever - pick up the phone, go to the house, don't leave him alone in this.
He is a grown man, she lived a long comfortable life. Morrissey needs to grow up.
