From Leiber and Stoller to Lennon and McCartney: the alchemy of the duo - The Guardian
Songwriting duos have given pop some of its finest moments. Laura Barton looks at how they work – and what happens when they don't

Excerpt:

Sometimes, of course, the kind of quibbles that Stoller described in his relationship with Leiber can escalate into something more destructive; the legendary songwriting duo Bacharach and David, for instance, came apart at the seams when Burt Bacharach decided that Hal David's half of the deal – writing the lyrics – was the easy part. Similarly, Johnny Marr was reportedly much put out that, having written a particularly pretty tune, Morrissey gave it the rather less fetching title Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others.

The Smiths

Mott The Hoople Documentary Due - ClashMusic.com

Excerpt:

Detailing the band's story, the importance of Mott The Hoople within the pantheon of rock music is laid bare. Morrissey volunteered to write the sleevenotes, penning some moving words to his boyhood heroes:

“Savage history always passes judgment in due course, and here we are, in 2011, still studying Mott The Hoople.”

Bringing the band's story back to life, Mott The Hoople are rescued from their place in the history books and given a new relevance by a thoughtful, provocative and enthralling new documentary.

'The Ballad Of Mott The Hoople' is out on October 10th.

Army Navy still battling as an indie with 'The Last Place' - Pop & Hiss, LA Times music blog

Excerpt:

The chance to collaborate with Morrissey isn't an opportunity most young rock musicians would take lightly. Justin Kennedy of the recently reinvigorated Army Navy justifiably jumped at the opportunity. But the band, having just released the vibrant collection of lovelorn-in-Los Angeles power pop that is "The Last Place," didn't gleam much musical knowledge from the dapper chronicler of strained relationships.

Kennedy, after all, pays the bills as a wardrobe stylist. "I dress people for photo shoots or events, or dress actors for red-carpet events," Kennedy said.

While searching Google News under Morrissey, I came across the following headline- but the link is broken:

Sun shines for Morrissey and Visconti
Irish Independent - ‎9 hours ago‎

"Panic on the streets of London/ Panic on the streets of Birmingham," sang Morrissey on the Smiths classic 'Panic'. But while rioting swept the UK last week, I can reveal the Manchester singer was in a Dublin studio working with legendary David Bowie ...

Has anyone read this article before it was removed- and what did it say? Thanks

I figured the producer would be Visconti. Morrissey said that he wanted to work with him again, and Boz recently had that facebook picture with Visconti. It looks like that's who it's going to be.

They were filming a session in Temple Bar (Sun Studios I think) for a new MTV show.
Studio In Session will be shown later this year or early...
