Your biggest musical discoveries of the past 20 years

Yes, 16 hp are a special band in my eyes, Wovenhand not so much. It's got to be a good while since I really listened to Wovenhand. It was probably only last week that I listened to Low Estate (16 hp). I think lately, whenever I do have the chance to listen to music, which is not that often, it has been to listen to John Fahey, and Teho Teardo and Blixa Bargeld.
I do take it you prefer Wovenhand to 16 hp, then?
I do. But I think 16HP are fantastic, as well. But yeah, Wovenhand are very much in line with what I like. I also like the album DEE made with Alexander Hacke (Neubauten). Did you listen to that one?
Ah, Blixa! I haven’t yet had the chance to listen to their latest album, but I really enjoyed the first one. Are you Neubauten fan as well?

I heard a couple of songs by DEE and A Hacke but, at the time, it didn't do it for me. Maybe, down the line, I'll give the album a go.
I know Teho and Blixa released a new album yesterday but I've not heard it yet. The previous releases have all been very good, imo. I particularly like the Berlin live album.
Neubaten? Yes...and no! You may know what I mean by that! I haven't heard all their music, but it's the more mellow stuff I prefer. Are you a fan of them?

I think you should. Very far from Horsepower, though.
Haha, I know what you mean. I too prefer the mellower stuff, if I have to choose, but when the mood strikes me, there’s nothing like the harsh industrial stuff. Or why not meet in the middle with gems such as Schwarz or Armenia? 😎 But yeah, I’m a fan. I don’t listen to them religiously, but I think they’re pretty marvelous. Their new album is very good.

listen loud on headphones preferably on some substance … enjoy!

I love those instructions. Not into substances (bar alcohol), but will definitely give this a chance.

alcohol would work, even from the bar.

Yes, Neubaten's new album is very good. And, yes, there are times when the loud stuff is a good listen. Enjoy the rest of your Saturday, I'm just off to see a friend. Regards

I know there's more... but off the top of my head...

  • The Beatles - Explanation: I didn't grow up listening to them. In fact, they seemed passe growing up with Duran Duran, Adam Ant, New Order, etc. Of course, I knew the well-known songs but didn't have any of their albums. It wasn't until maybe 15 years ago that I started listening to their albums. I think Revolver is my favorite. But from Rubber Soul forward is just pure brilliance.

  • Thievery Corporation - I love their first 3 albums best. I feel like they kind of lost their way a bit. The 2 main guys have done solo projects which are quite good.

  • Poolside - for me, they picked up where Thievery Corporation left off. If you are unfamiliar - start with their cover of Neil Young's Harvest Moon.

  • Natalia Laforcade - All in Spanish. Hasta la Raíz and Musas are incredible albums. I haven't been as into her newer stuff.

  • Brigette Calls Me Baby - Yeah, I'm going there. The debut album doesn't have a weak song on it. Yes, there is Morrissey influence but there is also Elvis, Roy Orbison, and some early Cure, and a few more I'm trying to ID.
A few other notable mentions - Toro y Moi and Jungle.

What kind of stuff do Thievery Corporation and Poolside do?

as a person whos into music as a culture and something to listen to ive been really entranced by hyperpop. it feels like a genuine genre that kinda emerged free from labels etc or corporate sponsorship. i think its known as the first genre to emerge from the internet itself so it draws from a lot of cultures and languages. could be in english one second japanese the next, spanish on the next verse or a big ol mix of all of it. a mix of electro hook filled pop, punk rock rave glam and hip hop it has a lot of nuance and few corporate influences. no gender or sex divides, lots of inclusivity and collaborations (they can make song together from around the world). its interesting to me as the genre doesnt have any geographical boundaries and isnt a reaction to the previous generations music. no age limits. since they often do everything themselves it kinda reminds me of the diy punk scene and they can look like however they want or say whatever without censorship. it has its own language. it seems to have evolved away from the previous generations view and was allowed to develop itself and is really cool. interesting artists ive found from this scene r

phonewifey (0ne of my favs) can go from acoustic guitar to a club song to low pitch night core rap flow. hes great and writes some of the best / moving lyrics about clinical depression and working with the health system, abandonement and poverty, class strife etc cant go wrong with phonewifey

fraxiom (this one is interesting because hes like a johnny rotten or liam meaning that they do what they do often just on pure swagger> he started by talking to an engineer on facebook while at college and just suggested a vocal line. next thing you know there songs gone viral and hes everywhere. very spontaneous and just a character

kennedy x0x0 writes beautiful songs about bipolar disorder and depression in very truthful unglamorous ways. a strong religiously divided family he has songs about guilt, missing his father and brothers who wont speak to him anymore, not knowing how to move forward in your life. songs about feeling like a burden to everyone and everything

that kid - is a club pop young man who sings some really catchy really graphic but unsensational songs about gay sex. i just this guys melodies. lyrics are nice but hes young and will probably get better

glitch gum - is a super sweet guy who sings about feeling overweight and overlooked sometimes and has a lot of songs about relationships and feeling uncertain. in contrast to a lot of hyperpop he has no image and is very wholesome. i like him very much and hes kinda mixes pop punk pop rock with hyperpop and glitchcore

only want to mention like five but honorable mentions r

kid trash
popstarbills
cake pops
belaganas
syko
can of bliss
life after youth
wargasm
kyunchi
jedwell
alice gas
alice longyu gao
vaeo
rouri404
donatachi

i love that kids are still doing something new and something that expresses there lives. its good stuff

For me, it would have to be the fabulous Buckethead. He has put out over 600 records. Here's a good place to start, "Disintegration Mirrors" from "Claymation Courtyard":
