Strange/unexpected Moz references?

Jono Lancaster again mentions The Smiths when talking to Radio New Zealand

...That was a game-changer, he said, and then another encounter at the bar further boosted his self-esteem.
"A girl started working in the bar, she loved Radiohead, The Foo Fighters, Smiths, Morrissey. Wore skinny jeans and a beret and she had this love heart necklace, she did ballet at the local uni...

...Lancaster launched the Love Me, Love My Face Foundation in 2016 and is currently working on a BBC show Love My Face, and has recently published a book, Not All Heroes Wear Capes.

The book he said, is "about becoming the biggest hero in your own life".

"You are the biggest source of inspiration that you have and that's what I want people to take away."

I remember this at the time and was so pleased that she met Morrissey before she passed away.

Thanks. If you live in the UK, I am including a link here. If not, just Google it, you should find it easily enough in Amazon USA or elsewhere. Had problems with the Amazon search engine. Useless corporate vermin.

I'll hopefully get my hands on a copy sometime soon though not from Amazon. Used to take a keen interest in Scottish writers but there's been too much pandering to Nicola Sturgeon approved predictable shite in the last ten years. Creative Scotland has a lot to answer for.

I'm more destructive Scotland. The book is available in various venues, or even direct from the independent publisher:

I despise the semi-sentient wannabe-writer Scotland-traitor Sturgeon and all her banal shite, trust me. I don't even believe she reads the books she wears as badges of sniuffy aesthete pride; it's all for show. She's a genuine f***ing idiot, a starf***er who hangs round writers pretending to be an 'artist'. She makes my blood boil, or run cold, depending on what kind of day I am having. She's a disgrace in all ways. She would NEVER read my book, a point I am very proud of. I like intelligent readers.

I checked that Amazon page. Astounding recommendations -

Praise for Soundproof in Satellite Town

“SIST should be required reading for every disenchanted zillenial, aimless millennial, and burn-out gen x-er across the country. The most criminally underrated writer (and novel) since the inception of ink on paper.”
- Chris Kelso, author of The Black Dog Eats the City

"Mr. Rae's language vibrates and buzzes from the page like a Scots cyber-sabre, smelling like spilled beer and burnt wiring."
- JG Thirlwell

"If Henry Miller decided to rip off both William Gibson and William Burroughs, it might read like this gritty sexplosive novel set in the 22nd century."
- Richard Kern

"Soundproof in Satellite Town crackles with the wit, (unintentional) wisdom, and sheer, unadulterated energy of great rock ‘n’ roll. Lester Bangs, I think you’d be proud.”
- Jim DeRogatis

"Graham Rae makes heterosex sound quite appealing. Which is of course the test of any great fiction writer."
- Mark Simpson

“New writers, like Graham Rae, will always shock + delight a new generation of readers.”
– JG Ballard

The story reminds me a little of a smart book covered her last year -

Are you going to tour and read? I'm in Ireland, where independent bookshops still exist, including Books Upstairs in Dublin, run by the people who edit Dublin Review of Books.

Being set in the 22nd century probably rules out Smiths, Morrissey details, but we won't hold that against it!
Brilliant!

Ahh, independent book shops. A wonderful Aladdin's cave.

I once thought I saw Morrissey in one.

I secretly wish he would open one of his own, selling all of the books he loves. Maybe he'd run it like Bernard from Black Books. That would be marvellous.

No, I'm not going on tour, sorry, nobody knows who I am and I am skint. Chuckling. If you know anybody who would review it, that would be great, cos they're very hard to come by. Would love to go back to Ireland again, though. Not been there since I drove Arab Strap to a gig there in Dublin in the mid-90s or so. Ironically, they played on the same bill as a Smiths tribute band.

Having just read the synopsis to My Weil, I can 100% guarantee you that my book is absolutely nothing like that whatsoever, unless Lars Iyer has people tripping on diseases, has drunken pub discussions of neurotheology, mixes Rimbaud with exploitation film trailers to create sleazy, and neutronukes all previous forms of muzak stone...cold...dead. Chuckling here.

And oh aye. there are a couple of Smiths refs in my book. Should be easy to spot. I was in this book years ago (sorry, dunno why it's so much text, instead of the tidier link above):

A number of fans on various social media liked and commented (positively ) on this pic I took of Alain. So, I thought l'd share it here as well. It is being used to announce the new partnership between us and the good people at 33 & West as we look to start full on touring worldwide. As for the photo, it was taken in Paris when Al was slinging for Mozzer. We skipped out to grab lunch and I captured a few moments prior to ordering. As it turns out this cat cleans up pretty well and apparently get lucky with a camera every so often This was definitely an amazing moment in time for multiple reasons and I'm grateful for the circumstances that led to me finding myself in Paris for the first time. Even more incredible to think how much things have significantly improved since it was taken a relatively short time ago. We've put on some gigs in Ireland and are now setting things up to be able to bring the band and music that fans really want to hear (their words, not mine ) to venues around the world. We continue to find (or be found by) good people to work with (Hi Matt!) and are constantly humbled by the support and encouragement from both the hard core fans and the newer ones. Fun times... can't wait to see you all there when Al, Spen, Gaz, Craig and Gus show you why they just may be the best band in your town on any given night. Catch you then
