Morrissey's frenzied arrival in Chile - articles
Thanks to Angela
from MorrisseyTour.com
for the following article scans from the Santiago
papers. Today is Morrissey's first ever South American
show.
Anyone willing to translate the main points of the
articles?

From Angela:
"MORRISSEY:
búsqueda frenética"
from the newspaper: El Metropolitano -
March 28, 2000
translates to "Morrissey Search (finding)
Frenzy." My Spanish is awful, but from what I
understood from the article is that Morrissey has
checked into the Carrera Hotel under the name Eddie
Riff. (He did that quite a bit during the
Maladjusted tour too.) Lots of fans have been going
by the hotel in search of him. The article quotes
Gary, Spike and Debbie Dannell (sp). They both seem
to be optimistic about the show to be preformed
later tonight. Hopefully some native Spanish
speakers that visit your site can do a better job of
translating this.

"Morrissey
de Paseo por El Cerro San Cristóbal"
From the Newspaper: El Mercurio March 28
2000
I have no idwa what the hell this says. They did
however spell Boz´s name as "Booz" haha.
The El Mercurio article is
also online. From Daniel
Opazo. Use Babel
Fish for a rough translation:

Morrissey
de Paseo por el Cerro San Cristóbal
Morrissey arrived around 8:15 am to Chile. Fans were
expecting him. He didn't expect them so we walked
across the airport and then the fans ran to see him.
They touched him and Moz got a little nervous.

"The Return Of Linderland" opens in Manchester
From R.A. Allen:
The
Return of Linderland officially opened on Friday
at the Cornerhouse in Manchester. As reported previously
it is a film and photographic representation of not
so distant similarities between the people of
Manchester and those depicted in spaghetti Westerns.
Linder pulls of a fantastic Clint Eastwood
impression in a few photos!
Incidentally, the camera work was credited to one
Aaron Starkie who could have been seen in the car
park behind Salisbury City Hall after the Morrissey
show travelling at speed in a shopping trolley,
while entertaining all with heartfelt renditions of
many a Smiths classic. A bright future for the boy!
The exhibition is on until May and the
Cornerhouse can be found on the corner of Oxford
road and Whitworth Street.
From Esteban:
The
Linder Sterling exhibition is running until early
May and I suggest that any one in the North west of
England visits it...
The images juxtapose gun-slinging cowboys against
modern day gun-slinging gangsters, with Linder
herself in the photos, dressed as Clint Eastwood,
puffing on a cigarello... a book may well follow
soon.

Morrissey singles box set 1988-1991 (May 15?)
From GurgleJerk:
My
weekly browse through the Siren CD site for new
releases has produced this:
Singles
1988-1991 (10xCDS), BOX $79.99
10 disc collection includes 33 tracks includes
singles from "Suedehead" to
"Interesting Drug". Release Date:
15-May-00
The Siren people largely deal with imports, so it
may be an "official" EMI release. Then
again, it may be more like the unofficial
"1988-1996" box set that popped up a few
years ago.

Elastica - "My Sex" lyrical similarity
From Jon:
Apparently
a track by Elastica
called 'My
Sex' which features on their new album
contains the lyric:
' What I want is a room with a three bar fire
like the one you had before, when you were poor and
I just liked you more'.
I don't
know about you, but I feel a writ coming on!
