An open letter to Morrissey - Side-Line

28 Jul, 2011
In a reaction to the comments the former frontman of the Smiths made at a concert in Warsaw, Poland, on Sunday, Side-Line's chief editor Bernard van Isacker decided to send the man a letter. For those who are unaware, before singing "Meat is Murder", the 52-year-old musician told the crowd: "We all live in a murderous world, as the events in Norway have shown, with 97 dead. Though that is nothing compared to what happens in McDonald's and Kentucky Fried shit every day."

Morrissey: 'Norway Attacks Nothing Compared To Actions Of Fast Good Giants' - Gigwise
He claims...

Morrissey has courted criticism after he reportedly compared the actions of fast food companies to the recent attacks in Norway.

At least 76 people died last week in two separate attacks which were both orchestrated by far-right extremist Anders Behring Breivik.

Morrissey, a staunch vegetarian, made reference the massacre during a performance in at Stodola Club in Warsaw, Poland earlier this week, according to the Daily Mirror.

Before playing The Smiths' song 'Meat is Murder', he is quoted as saying: “We all live in a murderous world, as the events in Norway have shown, with 97 dead.

“Though that is nothing compared to what happens in McDonald’s and Kentucky Fried Sh*t every day.”

Danny Boyle suggests The Smiths could feature in London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony

The Evening Standard (London) yesterday mentioned that artistic director Danny Boyle (director of Slumdog Millionaire) had suggested that music of The Smiths might be used at the opening of the Olympics one year from now.

"Beijing's four-hour extravaganza is thought to have cost £70million. Boyle, who has a reputation for scoring box office hits on shoestring budgets, has hinted that Britain's musical past could be central to the 2012 opening, saying this year: "Think about who we've produced - the likes of David Bowie, Jimmy Page, The Smiths, Stone Roses and New Order... you would imagine it would be a big part of the ceremony.""

The interview:

The Royal Visit- independent.ie

The interview segment:

Of the big record labels, he says: "There have been lessons learned, that's for sure. I like what Morrissey said about how, isn't it funny how all their acts go to number one? They go on the cover of Rolling Stone after one release. It took me four albums. The record companies, they have become like carjackers."
