The Scottish Review of Morrissey New Album

Excerpt:

...But given where we are now – Morrissey is 66 years old – it’s inevitable that quite of a few of the songs are contemplations on ageing and time. The opening track, You’re Right, It’s Time, is a reflection on mortality, and possible diminishing relevance (“I cast no reflection in the mirror now”). You can feel the effect of time as well in Notre-Dame in which he says a “cold hand just touched me”, although the song turns on the idea that the cathedral may have been burned down deliberately and the truth hushed up. It’s the sort of thing that will not help those who have cooled on Morrissey to warm to him again...

Morrissey review — a martyr to the cause of himself

Are his new songs as good as the old? At the O2 in London, Morrissey made it very hard to pretend they might be

Excerpt:

“I grow older. I never die,” he announced, sounding in pretty good voice as a scene from The 400 Blows played out behind him. Old favourite Suedehead sounded fantastic, with a raw and alive rock’n’roll energy that filled the 02 arena, but then things went seriously wrong with the new song Notre Dame. “Before investigations, they said there’s nothing to see here,” he sang over undulating electronics, suggesting that some shady conspiracy lies over the Notre Dame fire, presumably one involving terrorism, despite there being no evidence for it.
