The Brazilian dates are still unconfirmed... In Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba the spokesperson for the venues says the dates are not even on reserve. So, I start wondering if the shows are really going to happen...

...The Metropolitan site (Rio de Janeiro) is announcing another artist for March 29th and 30th. His name is Jo�o Gilberto and he is the Bossa Nova "father".

Pittsburgh, PA - Venue changed from Metropol to the A.J. Palumbo Center (link from Jeffrey). From Nate:

The Pittsburgh show (Feb. 17th) has been moved from Metropol to the larger A.J. Palumbo Center due to an overwhelming demand.

The snag? Metropol was general admission and I believe the Palumbo center has assigned seats. So check with the box office to see how to exchange your tickets for new ones.

If you have tickets to the Metropol show you should take them to the Ticketmaster outlet where you got them to exchange them. You can do that starting 10AM Wednesday the 9th of Feb.

Over the past 15 years, Morrissey has indulged in enough self-absorption, mopery and petulant whining to be mistaken for a player in the NBA, yet he's somehow evolved into an icon for introverted misfits and outcasts everywhere. Perhaps that's because, unlike other pop culture celebs, Morrissey has shown a willingness to skewer himself as well as mainstream society in a series of catchy pop singles that fuse sharp riffs and arch wit. But whether this master of the maudlin can hold his own in today's more assertive pop music scene is open to question. Sold out.

Bored-looking Morrissey turns in lackluster show at Paramount

Some shows are better than other shows.

And Morrissey's lackluster gig at the Paramount Theatre last night left me feeling as desultory as one of his songs.

For those who turned on to the Smiths in college during the '80s - when the Smiths were in their heyday - it must have been especially disappointing. The former frontman for the late English alternative band scrupulously avoided most of the biggest hits of his career - even his solo career.

Morrissey had a spirited enough beginning, taking the stage dressed like Elvis from the '68 comeback special, all in black - plastic, not leather, he pointed out for the any PETA members in the nearly sold-out audience.

Backed by a three-piece band, Morrissey's sound was more rock and less melodic pop than what he's come to be associated with. Problem was, the instruments often drowned out his mesmerising croon.

Toned-down numbers such as "Half A Person" showed the Morrissey that fans seemed to be thirsting for, judging by the response - and by the near-cricket-chirping silence and inertia between some of the tunes.

The inertia emanated from a bored-looking Morrissey, apparently hot, tired, uncharismatic, and just going through the motions, constantly throwing sweaty T-shirts into the audience.

"Meat is Murder" was another audience favorite, despite painful lyrics that only the notorious vegetarian could still get away with - and only in front of a friendly audience. ("The turkey you festively slice is murder...")

But the bulk of Morrissey's set list may have been satisfying only for the die-hards wearing "Mozzer" shirts. "Now My Heart is Full," "The Teachers Are Afraid of the Pupils," "Tomorrow," and "Alma Matters" were OK. But apparently, the Mope-meister was too bored to be bothered with a few of the songs that built his fan base in the first place.

No "Panic," "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others" or "Sheila Take a Bow." Not even "The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get." Hey, nobody's asking for an all-greatest-hits show, but a few would have staved off the depression.

At the end of a 90-minute set, Morrissey returned for a one-song encore and fled the stage fast, the house lights coming on so quickly that audience members must have felt like they were getting the bum's rush.

If they really want to hear "How Soon is Now?" they'll have to wait for the Nissan Maxima commercial that uses it on TV.

Hello, last November at the International Book Fair in Guadalajara City, M�xico, a book was released entitled "Sinfon�a de Sortilegios" which is partly devoted to Morrissey. An entire part of the book is for him, and I just adored the was the author outlined him. So, I would like to know if anybody else has read it?

I just came across the copy of "The Face" , no. 36 January 2000 issue, where there's a mention of Morrissey in the Editorial column:

"Damon Albarn was on telly the other night. The programme - a wonky attempt by The South Bank Show to capture the sights, the sounds, the smells of Blur in action-proved to be mildly diverting for a couple of reasons. Aside from Damon's funny attempts to appear empathic ("I feel sorry for all these people traveling this route every day," he moaned aboard the London to Colchester train, As the camera panned back to show him in First Class wearing Gucci shades), he revealed that he'd formed Blur ten years earlier as a reaction to a similar South Bank profile of THE SMITHS. On that show, MORRISSEY had expressed a view that pop music as we knew it had run its course. Damon was so incensed by this he formed a band to prove him wrong."

There is some news from El Vez, the band that opened up for Moz in the early in his tour last year.

Alan McGee Signs Mexican Elvis

ALAN McGEE, the man who discovered and signed Oasis has signed a cult singer known as 'The Mexican Elvis' to his newly launched Poptones label.

El Vez is one of the first signings to Poptones, which McGee set up weeks after leaving Creation Records, the label he launched almost 18 years ago.

The California-based singer, real name Robert Lopez, told London newspaper the Evening Standard on Monday February 7 "I am really excited to be working with Alan McGee. Oasis are one of my favourite bands".

El Vez's act involves Latin-styled renditions of Elvis Presley hits such as 'Hound Dog' (retitled 'You Ain't Nothing But A Chihuahua'), backed by singers Priscillita and Lisa Maria, otherwise known as The Elvettes. He also does impressions of Oasis and David Bowie.

Largely unknown in the UK, El Vez counts Pulp's Jarvis Cocker and Morrissey as his fans. There are plans to introduce the singer to a wider British audience in the spring with the release of a compilation album.

Other acts so far signed to Poptones include dub legend Lee 'Scratch' Perry and US outfit Outrageous Cherry.

Alan McGee Quits Creation Records

For some reason or another, when visiting this club where the event was planned last Friday, the manager took me aside and informed me he didn't want a band to play, and we wanted to keep the night the way it was without doing a Morrissey party... (It's an 80's night every Sat) I told him he was going to lose a lot of business and it was a really bad move but he insisted. Tough shit for him, really.

He said he still wants to do another May 22nd. I smirked and walked away. Sorry guys !! I'm currently looking for other venues, I'll keep you well informed. If all else fails... my house again? :):):)
