Axed writes: I stumbled upon this online zine called "The IndieQUIRER" (Aug. 2000):

"Prozac Destroys Morrissey's Career"
"Sources close to Morrissey say, the master of gloom, has been ruined by use of the anti-depressant drug Prozac. "He was at his most productive when he was melancholy and isolated. Now he is cheerful and has a new outlook on life. He has taken up kyaking and he has been toying with the idea of dating. Everyone is very concerned about is condition" said a friend.

"Morrissey says he wants to do happy songs now and he is not going to write any more about lonliness and heartbreak. He has been listening to the Beach Boys a lot and says he would like to do something more in that vein." another source told the Indiequirer.

Morrisey has been taking the anti-depressant drug since 1998 according to sources.

Don't Stop Me, cos I can't stop

Intro:
This is an exclusive adam-ant.net interview with Boz Boorer!

Boz Boorer -- charistmatic, charming and an exceedingly talented guitarist and performer. Aside from working regularly with the Polecats, Morrissey, and a host of others, Boz assisted as a songwriter and was featured on Adam Ant's 1995 album release, Wonderful. He also spent at least a month on the road with Adam and his entourage to promote the unreleased Persuasion album. This underrated rockabilly GOD just got back from touring with Morrissey and he took the time to speak with adam-ant.net. --- June/2000

A few months ago I reported that an artist by the name of Craig Babiar working at Antarctic Press, is a huge Morrissey fan and includes a reference to Morrissey in every issue that he does. Well Craig is now the regular artist for the Warrior Nun Areala monthly series and his first issue #13 is out this week. I picked up a copy and on page 6 is his little homage to Morrissey! I have included a few pictures showing the cover of the book in case fans are interested in what the book looks like, as well as pictures of the page and a close up of the panel. In the panel with the woman (Warrior Nun) sitting on the couch, you can see on the end table next to the couch, two soda cans with the name MOZ on them! Pretty Cool! I think it's cool that a fan like this is using his abilities to show what a fan he is!

This latest issue of Utne Reader (Sept/Oct) features an article from To-Do List titled "The Quirkyalone", which is a word the author of the piece invented to describe lonely romantics. Morrissey is featured on a list of past and present quirkyalones, with the description: "For those who grew up in the '80s, the prototypical quirkyalone."

UPDATE (Sept. 14): Link to article on Utne's site as mentioned in the comments section.

The inability to classify The Smiths and codify their place in music history continues apace: a current article on Salon.com mentions The Smiths as a "cornerstone twee act."

We're the younger generation by Joey Sweeney

A good-natured, perhaps well-meaning reference, but of limited meaningfulness.

Just a reminder on this weekend's Morrissey/Smiths tribute night in El Paso, Texas. It'll happen at Club Dedo, corner of Mesa and Rio Grande, from 9pm-2am Sunday September 3rd. In addition to all the originals, covers and videos being played, we'll also have prizes courtesy of Moz's former record label, Warner Reprise. Also, take extra cash for commemorative t-shirts!
