The song appears to be lyrically influenced, in part, by Magazine's 1980 song: "A Song From Under The Floorboards":
"I am angry, I am ill, and I'm ugly as sin"
Compared to:
"I am sick and I am dull and I am plain."
Morrissey would cover A Song From Under The Floorboards in later solo concerts.
