Thanks to everyone who e-mailed about the sighting at the Sparks homecoming concert in Hollywood on Nov. 14 (allstar report). From Poets Starve and Torr, the mention in the allstar column "Miss Truth": ...Self-professed Sparks fan Morrissey made a point to catch the duo's long-awaited L.A. gig at the Key Club last Saturday (Nov. 14). Standing in the shadows and looking like his usual forlorn self with some female pals, he was hardly noticed (George A. Paul)...
From Michael, one person who noticed:
On 11-14-98 I attended a show in Los Angeles at the Key Club (formerly Billboard Live). Sparks was performing that night, (their first time in 11 yrs. in Los Angeles). Richard Blade (local KROQ dj) introduced the band and mentioned that Morrissey was in attendance. Wow!!! but I thought he is probably in some v.i.p. section and would never be seen. The club is small (maybe 500 capacity??), during the show I turned around and who is standing behind me... the man himself. He was actually standing midway up a staircase to get a better view of Sparks. Moz was in a brown blazer w/ white t-shirt and some dark colored slacks...
And from Jo Solders, her extremely detailed account of meeting Morrissey backstage at the concert, which I've titled "Meeting Morrissey at Sparks". Thank you Jo. An excerpt:
...Since this was a Sparks show we talked about the stone age of the 70s and "Kimono My House" which had a profound effect on both of us (well here were were all these years later at a Sparks show for chrissake) and then of course the New York Dolls...
