Cream News Alert: Secret Morrissey Show at The Basement Canceled! - Nashville Scene

Excerpt:

The Cream has been privy to some astounding news this morning regarding a certain celibate English singer and a local record store. The annual Alliance of Independent Music Stores (AIMS) convention--starting Feb. 24--is going to be hosted by Grimey's and taking place in Nashville. The event is closed to the public, but will include a series of shows at The Basement. One of which was going to be a secret Morrissey show (to take place Feb. 25). I shit you not. I also regret to inform you that the secret is out BECAUSE the show has been scrapped.

Smiths, The - The Queen Is Dead [JPN SHM-CD] - Ideal Copy

The high quality SHM-CD (Super High Material CD) format features enhanced audio quality through the use of a special polycarbonate plastic. Using a process developed by JVC and Universal Music Japan discovered through the joint companies' research into LCD display manufacturing, SHM-CDs feature improved transparency on the data side of the disc, allowing for more accurate reading of CD data by the CD player laser head.

SHM-CD format CDs are fully compatible with standard CD players.

Today's Times (31st Jan) has a discouraging few words to say about the DVD interview with Russell Brand.

"The deluxe edition of Morrissey's new album, Years Of Refusal, features a DVD including a 20-minute interview with Russell Brand, recorded at Brand's LA pad. From the minute of footage [The Times] has seen, fans will be disappointed. The singer starts with a groan, then asks five questions of his interviewer, who is only too happy to talk about himself."

Not sure how much you can tell from only watching a minute of footage though.

Henrik Lundstrom writes:

The deluxe edition of Morrissey's new album will feature a DVD with exclusive content, including 'Wrestle With Russell', a revealing 20-minute interview filmed with Russell Brand at the comedian's home in LA in November 2008.

The interview sees Russell and Morrissey talking candidly about music, lyrics, image, fame and even hair in a piece that is both serious and highly entertaining.

Morrissey's performances of 'That's How People Grow Up' from Friday Night With Jonathan Ross and 'All You Need Is Me' from Later With Jools Holland will also feature on the DVD, as will the video promo for the 'All You Need Is Me' single.

There's also an exclusive digital booklet for anyone downloading the album from iTunes. Click here*** to view a clip from 'Wrestle With Russell'.

So what about Marlon and Chas singing "Heaven know i'm miserable now" 5 minutes ago on Emmerdale?

Eric Pollard writes:
On the Friday 30th January episode of the British soap opera Emmerdale, "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" was featured in one of the scenes.
A drunken Chas and Marlon Dingle (recently separated from wife Donna) were singing along to it.

Morrissey has previously said he watches Emmerdale and mentioned something about the soap's Dingle family in a concert once.

An anonymous person writes:
As of this week, the Dublin Event Guide, which was referenced at Morrissey's brilliant Marlay Park gig in August 2006, along with its music writer Siobhán Kane who wrote, as Moz himself said "something beautiful" about him, has sadly stopped printing because of the severe economic conditions. It has been something of an institution in Irish, and most specifically, Dublin cultural life, and several brilliant writers have gone through its ranks, though the past few years have been particularly notable for Kane's contributions. Apparently it will continue on in a web-based form in the future (www.eventguide.ie) and the word is that it might go back to its printed form at some point. As a Dublin local, I wanted to pass this information on to fellow Morrissey fans that might not be aware of it, not just because he was a fan of the publication, but because he loves (as all of you surely do) good music journalism, and this modest publication was a true ambassador for that. A sad day for the independents, but hopefully it will live to fight many other days, it deserves to.
