Morrissey Exclusive #2: The Memoir
by Staff; Photo by Michael Muller | 01.28.2009
In a recent interview with FILTER, Morrissey talked about his music, his life, the new record ( Years of Refusal, February 17), and as you will find below, his much-anticipated memoir. Here’s the nugget:
And what about the memoir you're reportedly writing? How does that figure into life's unwieldiness?
Morrissey: If you're 99-and-a-half years old, you can't be sure of what happens next. Certainly, there just seems to be a natural point when it's time to speak. Here is mine.
For the complete interview and cover article, check out the next issue of FILTER, hitting the stands in February

Paige K. Parsons writes: Whilst cleaning out my storage locker a few weeks ago, I came upon an old stash of negatives from my college days. Included were a few dozen from Morrissey's first solo gig at Wolverhampton in 1988. I've had them scanned and the best of them (which are all pretty grainy) are up on Flickr.
Thought the pics might be something the Morrissey Solo community might enjoy. I grant a non-commercial attribution creative commons license on all my images, so I hope you share them, print them and enjoy the memories.

Years of Refusal - MCV Written by John Donnon Wednesday, 28 January 2009 15:40 YEARS OF REFUSAL—MORRISSEY [ATTACK/LOST HIGHWAY] 4.5/5
Could it be that Steven Patrick Morrissey, he of the great, the late, The Smiths, is back on top of his game? That’s what the critics are saying, tagging Morrissey’s Years of Refusal as the first big comeback on 2009. And that’s putting it lightly as the man is on fire, scorching up the lyric pad with his unique homespun philosophy, whilst using the energy of rhythm and rock to bolster the arrangements.
Turning 50 this year has not hampered this man’s creativity or relevance to a modern audience, and becoming a father (yep, that’s his baby on the sleeve) has brought him rejuvenated hope, even if it is guardedly so (check out ‘It’s Not Your Birthday Anymore’, ‘You Were Good in Your Time’ and ‘I’m OK By Myself’). Morrissey now has someone to live for and he’s embracing it like a new dad should.

Ponce writes: "Girlfriend In A Coma" the title of a new project from the director of the abysmal "The Love Guru"
From The Hollywood Reporter Writers slip into 'Coma'Marco Schnabel, Larry Stuckey to pen comedy By Steven Zeitchik Jan 28, 2009, 12:00 AM ET "The Love Guru" director Marco Schnabel and "Little Fockers" writer Larry Stuckey are finding a girlfriend. The pair are teaming to write "Girlfriend in a Coma," a satirical high school comedy that looks at an unlikely romance, with the pitch set up at Fox Atomic. Michael McCullers and 3 Arts will produce the project. McCullers wrote and directed the Tina Fey-Amy Poehler hit "Baby Mama" for Universal. Schnabel and Stuckey met and honed their chops under comedy veteran Jay Roach. Schnabel was a second-unit director on Roach's "Meet the Fockers," and Stuckey was an associate producer on the 2004 film. Fox Atomic is set to release youth-themed comedies including "The Post Grad Survival Guide" and "Miss March." Schnabel is repped by WMA and 3 Arts; Stuckey by ICM; and McCullers by Endeavor and 3 Arts. ---

Some Girl writes: Fifteen minutes with you...?
I'm a published freelance writer proposing a piece on Morrissey's 50th birthday (May) and forthcoming album (Feb) to the national press.
Rather than interviewing the man himself, I want to speak to fans, with an emphasis on their enduring love & devotion for Morrissey/The Smiths even 20 years after the band split, and as Moz reaches half a century.
Does anyone have any plans to celebrate his birthday in an unusual way? Or have any interesting/funny tales on their experience of being a Smiths/Moz fan? Anyone who considers themselves particularly fanatical? Any fans from South/Central America?
I'm especially keen to talk to people who share his birthday (22nd May), or who also turn 50 this year.
The article will be a fun, thought-provoking, affectionate & respectful portrayal of Mozza fans. If you think you can help, please, please, please get in touch.
