Yesterday 12/14 at KROQ's almost acoustic christmas I was able to ask Jesse a question regarding their past Jimmy Kimmel gig, and wheather or not the message on his guitar said "hi moz" or "hi mom", he confirmed it does say "hi moz" he then went on to tell me he will use that guitar for that nites performance, and true to his word he did, his performance was reminiscent of the moz man too. I just saw something on MTV where Atomic Kitten were giving fashion critique on a parade of celebrities at a film premiere. They met Chris Pontius (Jackass) who had a jacket with MORRISSEY written on the back of it. One of the girls then said "Morrissey, oh that's cool...yeahhh, Morrissey of the erm... Smiths. Verrry cool" - obviously having that information fed through an earpiece and being totally unaware of who The Smiths were. Still, apparently it is "cool" to like Morrissey now. How reassuring for all us long-term fans to finally get some credibility...

Oh, and Pontius kept saying something like "Morrissey is my n*gg*r" which seemed to be showbizspeak for a compliment.

American Psychobilly band Tiger Army covered Morrissey's "The Loop" in concert Monday Dec. 15th at Soma in San Diego. They were there on tour with Rancid and played to a fairly large audience. Before Tiger Army took to the stage "You're Gonna Need Someone on Your Side" played over the loudspeakers during the Interlude. Nick 13 (Tiger Army's lead singer) spoke to the crowd about 4 songs in and said something to the effect of "We know there are a lot of you in San Diego who like Morrissey." He asked how many Morrissey fans were in attendance and got a few scattered hoots in reply. He then introduced the next song as a Morrissey song and said it was called "The Loop." It sounded really good, except for the fact that the rhythm guitar was lacking, although he played the lead part really well. If you remember back to a previous posting on Morrissey-Solo, from a Skratch Magazine article with Tiger Army on the cover, Nick 13 had stated he always wanted to do a live cover of a Morrissey song...maybe even "The Loop." Looks like he made good on that one.

On a side note, I first discovered Nick 13 was a Morrissey fan a few years back when Morrissey had the "Oye Esteban" DVD signing at the Virgin Records Store on Sunset, in Hollywood. I ran into Nick 13 outside. He had just purchased his own copy of the DVD. I asked him if he wanted me to take it up to Morrissey and see if he'd sign it for him. He obliged. When I got up to the front to meet Morrissey I asked him if he'd ever heard of the American Psychobilly band Tiger Army. He responded by saying he had not. I explained that Nick was outside and wasn't able to get a wristband to meet him, but he wanted his DVD signed. He said he would sign it. As he started to sign he looked up at me with a curious smile and asked "Should I sign it to Nick, or Nick 13?" I shrugged. He signed it to "Nick 13."
