Johnny Marr Calls T.A.T.U. Story Rubbish - Undercover. Excerpt:

The story that started in NME claimed Marr has already netted £200,000 ($AUD500,000) from the T.A.T.U. cover of his Smiths classic 'How Soon Is Now'. . "I don't quite know how that is worked out" Marr tells Undercover News. "That is the first I have heard of it. I'm sure the taxman and the Smith's drummer probably already have plans for it".

Attached is a copy of a Johnny Marr interview that appeared in "Beat"magazine (267k scan), a very popuilar free street-press mag found in pubs, CD and clothing stores in and around Melbourne. Excerpt:

"Morrissey and myself were far more fanatical about the band than even the most fanatical Smiths' obsessive." says guitarist and founder of The Smiths, Johnny Marr with surprising enthusiasm of the finest British band of the past two decades. "We were our biggest fans and everything that the band was about we really loved. It was a really, really amazing time. It wasn't just kind of a bunch of young guys goofing around and the stuff that happened to us didn't happen by accident. It was borne out of complete passion and ridiculous intensity and that's why we sounded the way we did."

I was surprised to hear country singer Ronnie Milsap mention Morrissey at his concert which was on one of the freeview DIRECTV channels today. At the beginning of his concert he said something like. . . "Well it's good to see a lot of people still enjoy my music. I guess it's just me and Morrissey that can't get a record deal."

As I researched a review I was writing on Paul van Dyk's latest release, I came across something he said. He was born and raised in East Germany:

"We were able to see Westside - TV and listen to western radio stations. We recorded the music and replayed it at our parties, because in the east we didn’t have something like a club culture. In those days I listened to the radio show of Monika Dietl. I was really captivated by the music of ‘The Smiths’ and ‘New Order’. It (the music) was very strong and emotional.”

On the 19th of February 2003 Erlend Øye, a member of the Kings Of Convenience, and his band played some Smiths tunes live at the concert at Hop & Grape in Manchester . If I remember correctly there was bits of 'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out', 'Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want' and some other song from the 'Queen Is Dead' album that I can't remember the title of...

I noticed that the crowd didn't pick up on the Smiths references. It was pretty bizarre considering the fact that the Smiths are one of the most famous and greatest bands to come out of Manchester.

Just wanted to let all the Moz fans know that Craig Kilborn hooks up Moz in the movie "Old School". There is a scene when Kilborn is looking at a house and there is a very small picture of Moz on the wall. This same picture also appears in the bathroom when Kilborn is in there with some lady. The images are hard to make out but it def. is Moz. I must warn you though it goes by extremely fast. I had to see the movie a 2nd time in order to see them. So check it out. I also think Kilborn makes a few references to Moz when he is talking about how depressing the one guys life is, not really sure on this one, maybe some one else can help me out here.

I was watching Coronation St. on Wednesday 19th Feb and there was a scene with the girls in the factory. They had loads of pictures of hunky men pinned on the wall (as you do) and who should I see lovingly tacked to the wall but Morrissey. It was that photo where he's topless with his arm bent over his shoulder - you know? It looked like it was signed too. It's nice to know the factory girls have some taste.

As a public outreach effort, over 1 million names were collected and placed on the STARDUST spacecraft, which will visit Comet Wild 2 in 2004. Included is one Steven P. Morrissey (actually, two Steven P. Morrisseys; the name is listed twice).
