- the Tuesday September 3, 2002 show soldout in record time

Morrissey has agreed to add a second date.

This second show is scheduled for Monday September 2, 2002 at Club Vallare, and tickets will be the same price: $25.00 if purchased in advance; $30.00 on the day of the show. Tickets will be available at CD Warehouse, All That Music, the Headstand, and Spirit Winds (Las Cruces) on Saturday August 17th.

On the "Most Requested Concert Tours" chart, Morrissey jumped from number 52 last week to number 13 this week (4 times better over the last week!). Morrissey's corresponding "Power Index" is .262 with Bruce Springsteen sitting as the "Power Index" benchmark at 1.000.

A new documentary on The Smiths is to feature footage of the band that has not previously been broadcast in the UK.

These Things Take Time: The Story Of The Smiths includes excerpts of a concert film previously only shown in Spain.

The forthcoming documentary will also feature footage of Morrissey talking about vivisection on World In Action.

These Things Take Time: The Story Of The Smiths will be broadcast by ITV in early November.

In 2002, London Morrissey fans, I suspected, tend to be a little more demure in their worship and eschew any sense of occasion when they can instead, for an extra fee, phone or book online with their credit cards, not minding too much where they sit. And £27.50 per ticket sees off any casual gig-goers. It certainly curtails my nightlife for a while. But it is Mr Morrissey.

I was right. There were only four other people there. A dozen more turned up at about ten-to-nine, but that was it. I got the ticket I wanted with no problem at all.

Amusingly, two journalists from Q Magazine were also in attendance, covering the whole tour. They were hoping for a nice photo of a big queue around the block. They were very disappointed at how much they'd misjudged things. But then, one of the journalists had a beard, so he is forgiven...

Smiths mention in NY Times article on burgeoning black rock movement
Cascando writes: In an August 11th article in NYTimes.com about how many black musicians are turning away from hip-hop and embracing rock, there's an interesting Smiths mention by Santi White of the band Stiffed. Here's the relevant excerpt:

Rock, they say, gives them the freedom to express their own ideas. Santi White of Stiffed said: "There's a Smiths song that I love that says, `Hang the D.J. because the music he constantly plays says nothing to me about my life.' And that's how I felt. So I said, `Fine, I'm going to find some music that does say something about my life.' "

Eminem/Smiths video mix on Q Music Channel
stockwell martyr writes: I have just seen a video mix of Eminem's song "without me" with the Smiths "This Charming Man" on Q Magazine's Music TV channel (UK) the vocals are dominated by Eminem, singing over the Smiths guitar riff, with a bit of visuals of our Steven swinging the daffs around and closing with a shot of Morrissey. Amazing really, especially as I have yet to see any Smiths/ Morrissey videos played on any of the dedicated music channels, even the "dad rock" channels like Q and VH1. The mix actually works very well, very funny. I have seen a similar thing done with Eminem's "I'm Slim Shady" mixed with Britney Spears song "oops I did it again".

The Eminem/Smiths mix starts with the scene where Marshal sits up in bed with the 2 girls, with the comic strip caption having been changed to "It gives Marshal the creeps to see daffodils treated this way" (The Smiths video features Morrissey waving daffs about and them being spread on the drums etc) the cartoon strip later shows Moz with a caption "word spread that our hero has returned". Yes indeed.

Anti-Rat Campaign in UK
Allan writes: In UK they have started a campaign against rats in the cities - "Keep Britain Tidy". This is related to Morrissey as they use on one of their posters the slogan "The More Food Litter You Drop, The Closer We Get" (accompanied by a representative of the species), that, I imagine, could be related... Look for more.
