Note: as mentioned before, although the conversation did take place, it was NOT intended to be an interview.

Not much but… In the May issue of London style magazine 'Dazed & Confused' there is a section where various fashionistas have been asked to contribute a picture of their ideal man. Chloe Sevigny's picture is of a man's waist (Harmony Korine's?) with cut out pictures of Morrissey circa Your Arsenal arranged around it. Korine last year did a series of interviews wearing an inside-out Queen is Dead t-shirt so its safe to assume that this indie a-list couple are fans and it was nice to see Sevigny's tribute which is kind of rough in a 'cheap-date' style but obviously an homage.

Morrissey is also namechecked in an article on Jobriath which doesn't give much new info but again was nice to see - perhaps this is yet another clue that Morrissey is finally being welcomed back into the arms of fickle fashion?

Incidentally there's also an article on Nashville's hip-hop scene illustrated by photos by ex-Morrissey assistant Jake Walters. Parts of the issue are online at http://www.confused.co.uk

I saw OKGO opening for They Might Be Giants, and became an instant fan! I found several of their shows online at www.dcn.com (as well as many other bands, check it out!). Anyway, at their show at 7th Street Entry on 4/13/2001 they opened with a great version of "Panic".

You can watch the whole show at www.dcn.con, and visit them at www.okgo.net.

On April 17th I went to an open mike (all professional comics) over at Cobb's Comedy Club in San Francisco. These comics were trying out new material. The last act, Australian Comedian named Jim Short included Morrissey in his routine. He was doing a bit about how silly it is that big pop stars are being used in commercials to promote products, e.g. Britney Spears for Pepsi and Bono for a car (I forget which one). Well anyway, he said wouldn't it be great if Morrissey did an ad for Nine Lives presumably due to Morris the cat being the current cat. He did a pretty good Morrissey impression, A Boy With a Thorn at Side like, of him promoting Nine Lives. It was pretty funny. I doubt, however, that any other people in the room knew who Morrissey was. Anyway just a little tidbit. Very trivial, I know.

New Manchester band 'Charmed' have been talking about their new CD and musical influences in the Manchester Evening News (27th April).

Band members Rob Wood and Mark Dove explained how they chose the name of the band.

'We were on holiday in France and the TV was on, but we were not paying too much attention as all the programmes were dubbed in French. Then we heard 'How soon is now' booming from the TV set, we hadn't heard that cover version before and was amazed to see it being used as the theme for the programme 'Charmed' which we hadn't seen in the UK at the time. Being massive fans of The Smiths we was decided there on the spot that we would take the name of the programme as the name of the band.

In fact Charmed have been even closer to The Smiths than they ever imagined, as Dove continued, 'we were using the next recording studio in Altrincham, (south Manchester) as Specter - the new band featuring Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke.'

I was watching VH1's "Name that Video" and the host was asking the contestants their favorite concert moment. One contestant, Courtney, said that hers was dancing onstage with the Smiths at the Beacon Theater. Despite her fine taste in music, she wasn't able to field questions about Men Without Hats and LLCoolJ. She was ousted in the first round. Thanks for the mention though Courtney.

tibby writes: This is extremely trivial but here goes. I was watching "25 years of punk" on VH-1 the other night and they discussed the years between punk and grunge. They showed a few tiny clips of The Smiths. They were from the "How Soon Is Now" video, the part when Johnny Marr is giving Morrissey a guitar lesson. And they also had a segment about the New York Dolls.

Mexcellent also writes: This reference to the The Smiths is so small that it hardly seems worth mentioning but VH-1 is airing an hour long program called "25 Years of Punk". With about 10 minutes left to go in the show the narrator is claiming that New Wave is a mellowed down and more commercial version of Punk. While he is saying this on screen there is a montage of pictures of bands that were popular in the 80s and there is the briefest clip of Johnny Marr teaching Morrissey to play the guitar from the "How Soon is Now" video. If you blink you will miss it, seriously it is that short.
