I was lucky enough to meet Moz at last night's Doves show. He was acompanied by 2 girls, one Asian and the other American. He left with the two girls shortly after the show started, during the Doves 3rd or 4th song. I was able to talk to him for a minute or two, and although the conversation is a bit of a blur due to my nervousness, he did mention that he didn't really enjoy the Coldplay show.

I was prepared to see Morrissey this time so I took my Morrissey LP World Of Morrissey and Morrissey signed it. Great show and great to see Morrissey.

He is quick to point out, though, that he has never known the hell of real addiction. After Bros broke up, he went through "a sort of breakdown" when he went on a bit of a bender, but he explains, "it was a very pressed sort of bender. We were very pressed boys. That was our image. We used to joke that Morrissey probably put as much time into looking creased as we did into looking pressed. And mine wasn't a creased bender. It was a very dignified and private bender, though I'm not sure that's the best sort to do because if you're going to have a bender you should probably have some fun on the way. I just locked myself away and hid. I was never addicted to drink. I was never addicted to drugs. All I did was try to escape for a while. I'd get up in the morning and try drinking beers, then I'd try smoking weed. Then I'd lock myself in the studio and write song after song, singing until my throat bled."

Dan sends the "Mozz" mention in the Rolling Stone review of Idlewild - 100 Broken Windows:
American rock & roll fans are turning again to the U.K., and no wonder: That's where the bands are. Like Coldplay, Travis and Doves, Idlewild radiate the musical vigor and raw emotion you used to get from American groups just a few years ago, before U.S. rock devolved into its current laughable state as a butt-hair parade of metal clones. On their excellent second album, 100 Broken Windows, these four Edinburgh indie dudes mine American punk guitars for texture and aggression while pursuing the great British tradition of cheerfully art-damaged lyrical pretension. The way vocalist Roddy Woomble ponders life, love and Gertrude Stein amid the noise suggests Stephen Patrick Morrissey sitting in with the Stooges. Highlights here include "I Don't Have the Map," "Actually It's Darkness" and the perfectly titled Mozz tribute "Let Me Sleep (Next to the Mirror)." Idlewild don't prove that U.K. bands rock better - just thank God they are willing to rock at all. (RS 865)
